Firefox Quantum 57.0.4 (64bit) Causes screen to blink - Problem and Resolution (at least in my case).

The Problem: Firefox causes the screen to blink.

My PC details: Firefox Version: Quantum 57.0.4 (64 bit) OS: Windows 10 Professional Motherboard: ASRock Z87 Extreme P2.40 Processor: Intel Core i7-4771 RAM: 16GB Display Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce 210

Problem Details: Since the auto-upgrade to the above version of Firefox, my screen would blink (turn dark) for a second every time I re-sized the Firefox window, opened a 'New Private Window' and sometimes when loading a new page. I am not sure if a Windows 10 Professional update may have also contributed to or caused the problem.

Resolution steps taken: My searches returned only two possible solutions from Mozilla Support: 1) Try launching Firefox in Safe Mode. This would disable all 'Add-ons" and 'Plugins'. 2) Try disabling 'Hardware acceleration'.

Neither of the two worked.

I uninstalled Firefox and then deleted almost every Registry entry for both Firefox and Mozilla I could find. I then Installed Google Chrome. Chrome did not have this issue whatsoever.

However, within a day, I had separation anxiety. I missed Firefox as I was a Firefox user for as long as I can remember. I uninstalled Chrome, deleted all it's Registry entries as well and did a fresh install of Firefox Quantum 57.0.4. I was hoping a clean install would not have the issue. Sadly it still did.

The Resolution - Problem fixed.

I decided for some reason to check the UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface), which is the replacement for the BIOS in older motherboards.

Here are the steps: 1) I selected the 'Advanced' tab. 2) I then selected the 'Chipset Configuration' 3) Under the 'Chipset Configuration' I selected the 'IGPU Multi-Monitor'. The value of this setting was 'Enabled'. I only have one monitor so I changed this to 'Disabled'. 4) I exited out of this setting and went back in to ensure the setting was saved as 'Disabled', then exited out once more and out of the 'Chipset Configuration' and finally the UEFI and Saved the changes and rebooted the computer.

On launching Windows and then Firefox, no more blinking issue! Problem solved!
