You advised me to refresh Firefox to make it faster. All well and good - that works very well.

Previously, when I went to the email server to delete the spam before downloading, Firefox would offer me a choice of the various usernames for me to select.

After refresh, this is gone and I can only find a setting which allows username AND password to be automatically completed. This is too risky for me. How do I get just the username list back?

I think you are talking about the built-in form filler. That data may have been removed during the refresh.

Is this about the Firefox Password Manager?

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security: Logins: "Saved Logins" -> "Show Passwords"

You can check if you have an "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop in case the Refresh feature in Firefox has been used and a new profile has been created.

You can recover the passwords by copying the logins.json and key3.db files from the "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop to the current profile folder.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.
