Basically I want all my downloads to ALWAYS go to the same folder. I NEVER want my downloads to go to the last folder I used.

Outline scenario: I download images about sailing (my hobby). These all go into the Downloads folder and I sort them out from there. However if I decide an image occasionally needs saving elsewhere e.g. the Desktop, after I 'Save as' ... to the Desktop, FF then saves everything to the Desktop until I tell it otherwise. This gets really annoying, because my sailing images get scattered across a lot of folders that I use for work, my music folders etc etc.

I realise that this is all my fault. I should really check where each save is going before I click OK. But I don't. So I want to turn it off.

I've done some research and seen suggestions about browser.download.lastDir.savePerSite I've tried this and it doesn't seem to work, presumably because my images come from different sites ????

If it can't be deleted could I add a key to have two different Save as..  ???

E.g Save to default folder Save to last folder

Using Firefox Quantum. Thanks in advance.

I think I've found a workaround.

I installed an add-on called Save in by gyng

I also added a symbolic link into my downloads folder to save directly to a named folder.

The addon then gives a single click save to either last used or the named folder.

Why can't the FF team do this????

Edit: Another little advantage is that if you try to save two files with the same filename the addon renames the second by adding a number automatically instead of complaining and asking if you want to overwrite.

Is this an option in Quantum? If not - why not?
