I always seem to installing & reinstalling updates several times per version, but this isn't even letting me install the update. "You may have another instance of FF running."

It has been freezing a lot, which is why I happened to check to see if updates were ready. It effected FEBE, which I had to abort twice.

What now? Win10.

Thank you.

If you are unable to update properly, Get the full installer.

Some protection programs don't like the update/install stubs. Go here for the full installer.

Hi CiaoBella1, the 54.0.1 update might not be urgent for you unless you are experiencing one of the specific problems that it fixes: https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/54.0.1/releasenotes/

If exiting out of Firefox normally does not allow you to update, have you tried shutting down and restarting Windows since this problem began?

It's also possible to use the Windows Task Manager to see whether there are any instances of firefox.exe running that you may need to terminate manually. I don't know whether you are already familiar with the Task Manager from past threads.

In an earlier iteration that I managed to delete, I mentioned that I had restarted the computer.

It's always interesting to compare release notes, though.

Finally fixed it - but wacky-behaving updates have been a persistent issue for years now. This was different. It would be nice to install a clean update and see an improvement over the prior release - the one that precipitated the need for a newer version.

Love you guys. You know this.

(I know how to use task manager.)

Thank you.

I have been using the stub, which comes with every FF re-installation. I would, I would think, get an AV error or warning if it was a problem. I do not, so I don't think that I have the issue you seem to suggest.

Other than what might be versions that don't love my particular computer's configurations, every update has to be reinstalled one or more times. Generally because of the "Firefox isn't responding" issue.

So next time I need an update, I will instead go for the reinstall with full installation. (HUH?)

I seem to have two issues, though - or FF hasn't been smooth sailing in years, which I obviously tolerate.

Thank you, Fred McD.
