One of my folders (containing many subfolders) is grayed out.

When I opened Thunderbird it warned me of missing folders (it was trying to move email into these folders as my mail filters specified). One of my folders (top level, parallel with the Inbox, Junk, etc.) is grayed out. Most of my mail is in this folder. If I expand it, all the subfolders are listed, but also grayed out. I can see the email in these folders even though they are all grayed out. Why are they grayed out and why does Thunderbird think they are missing? Running Version 45.3.0
