You can disable the Password Manager if you never want to store a name and password.

  • Tools > Options > Security: Passwords: [] "Remember passwords for sites"

Otherwise you can click the key icon at the left end of the location/address bar if Firefox asks to store a password and possibly click never to create a block exception.

In case you use "Clear history when Firefox closes" or otherwise clear history.

  • do not clear the Site Preferences
  • Clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, passwords, and other website specific data.
  • Clearing Cookies will remove all selected cookies including cookies with an allow exception that you want to keep.

I was simply using the "Clear all history" option under the History button.

I didn't realize that I could set additional preferences under the 'Options' tab. Thanks very much for all of the advice. I really appreciate other people's help, as I'm not a power user on the computer, and I wasn't aware of these features under the Options tab, but will use them more intelligently now!

One other note: the Clear Recent History dialog has a button to expand and show the various categories of data that get cleared. It's a good idea to uncheck "Site Preferences" so that your individual site permissions are preserved.
