My new unread emails do not appear in bold type
I have 3 email accounts all of which have separate inboxes which is great. But why do the unread emails in any of these accounts not show in bold type, I do not mean they change from bold to light grey after a certain amount of time reading them, I may have 30 emails which are new and none of them are in bold type. please help

Go to the Help Menu and restart with Addons disabled. If that works better decide which add-on is causing problems and upgrade or remove.
Many thanks Airmail, I disabled all add ons (not sure what they are) and now all 3 accounts show unread messages in bold and also how many I have beside the Inbox folder.
I will check again tomorrow to see when I have messages.
Thanks for the help.

You apparently have an add-on causing a problem. I would activate them one at a time to see which one it is.
Today I have 15 new email and only the top 2 are shown in bold and I supposedly only have 2 messages in the inbox. Please could you give me a very basic walk-through on activating the add-ons one at a time.
Many thanks in advance. Howie69
From the Menu Bar select Tools-Addons-Extensions The alt key makes the menu bar appear if hidden.
or
Using the AppMenu button (3 horizontal lines) Addons
You should have the choices of enable, disable or remove
From what you describe look for one called Extra Folder Columns. There is no need for this addon anymore since it is built into Thunderbird.
Thanks Airmail for the help, although I only have Lightening installed and this is disabled, I looked at Extra Folder Columns and it displayed
"Not available for Thunderbird 38.3.0".
Is their any other things I could try, Thanks for your continued help.

I said extra folder Columns is no longer needed. Not sure why you tried to install it.
No more ideas here. Good luck.
As it was not on the list I wondered if I installed it and then deleted it would this help.
Thanks for all you help anyway Airmail.
I will have to put up with the issue.
On the toolbar > options > advanced > General and turn off hardware acceleration.
Many thanks Matt for the help. The hardware acceleration box was unchecked.
Any other ideas would be very helpful.
