It takes minutes to delete each message
I can only with great difficulty - very slow - read each message. If I want to delete it afterwards it may take minutes to be moved to the trash folder. This is happening since a few days ago I opened an attachment which was not from a friend but from Argentina.

Running two anti-virus scanners in parallel is a silly idea and will ultimately cause problems. If I were you I'd get rid of McAfee. It's been causing endless problems for many Thunderbird users.

hello, is this a question about thunderbird?
Why are you opening attachments from strangers? You probably got some kind of malware from doing that. List of malware removers:
- SuperAntispyware - http://www.superantispyware.com/
- AdwCleaner - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/
- Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware - https://www.malwarebytes.org/
- Spybot Search & Destroy - http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html
- Kasperky Free Security Scan - http://www.kaspersky.com/security-scan
- Windows Defender - http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/using-defender
If these don't find it or can't clear it, post in one of these forums for specialized malware removal help:

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.
Anti-rootkit utility TDSSKiller:
Assuming this is about Thunderbird. What is your anti-virus software?

Yes, Thunderbird.
McAfee Total Protection. I also use Avira. Maybe the two cannot be used together. I tried to eliminate McAfee's firewall because I am also running into problems with y HP printer but that did not improve anything.
