I can only with great difficulty - very slow - read each message. If I want to delete it afterwards it may take minutes to be moved to the trash folder. This is happening since a few days ago I opened an attachment which was not from a friend but from Argentina.

Running two anti-virus scanners in parallel is a silly idea and will ultimately cause problems. If I were you I'd get rid of McAfee. It's been causing endless problems for many Thunderbird users.

McAfee Total Protection. I also use Avira. Maybe the two cannot be used together. I tried to eliminate McAfee's firewall because I am also running into problems with y HP printer but that did not improve anything.
