I want to use extension xpi's from a shared external folder over multiple Linux profiles. So i examined the profile folder and found extensions.json. Though i can't find any documentation to it's keys online.

There's "rootURI:" with a "jar:file://path/to/extension.xpi!/", so i tried just replacing the path with the shared one. Though i observed that just makes firefox replace the path with the current one. So i examined further and found the "location:" key with the default value "app-profile". So my guess is, there's other values for other usecases, right?

So, in summary, what i need is:

• documentation to extensions.json keys or possible values to "location" key.
• if that isn't intended/doesn't work, how i can achieve my goal otherwise.

And please don't suggest the sync feature, that doesn't work for my usecase.

Hello! I synced my browsing data yesterday by signing in to firefox account and reset my OS(window 10) to improve my laptop's speed. When I am trying to get back my browsing data back after resetting and installing firefox by signing in to my firefox account and pressing the Sync Now button then its not giving me my browsing data back. Why is it so? Need Help. Thank You!!

Can you recommend some kind of extension thet will only check current icons for the bookmarks? Just that. I don't need duplicate bookmarks checker, inactice checker and God knows what else checker. Just icons, that's good enough for me.

I recently got a new computer. Installed firefox onto it. Brought over my profile with all my data and bookmarks. But for the life of me, the page would just sporadically flicker. I tried messing with the settings; performance settings; hardware acceleration. I tried refreshing firefox. But nothing.

I have an iMac with Sonoma 14.3.1 with Firefox 115.9.1 esr . It is for personal use, not for a business. I just learned that there is another Firefox version (124.0.2) which is not esr....

Which version should I use and why?

If I should use the "normal" version, how do I replace the esr version with the "normal" one ?

After just turning on my computer running Windows 10, I opened Firefox. I open 1 web site and noticed my computer showed a (16) prefix when loading Firefox. I opened the Task Manager and it showed that there were 15 instances of "firefox" running in the background. All showed a UAC Virtulization of "Disabled". But they also showed using 638.8MB of memory. I do not know whether these are necessary files that must run in the background or if the number of files indicates that my system has been hacked and someone else is in my system from outside. Any suggestions as to validity of these files running or how I might confirm that they should be running. I have noticed the number of excessive background files before but the number is never consistent which makes me fear I may have been hacked.

something apparently got corrupted in firefox.. i tried running update and i keep getting failed to update.. i have refreshed.. i have uninstalled and reinstalled ...nothing. i am sure there is a folder or file somewhere that is corrupted and i cannnot find it. because even when i uninstall and reinstall fresh. all my bookmarks are there .. how to i start a TRUE NEW install??

This has been happening for months now, on multiple devices (I have tried at least 3 different devices), and on multiple networks.

I have read the articles in here, but they just want me to check network configuration which is exactly the same for all browsers.

If I restart firefox it starts working again.

How can I prevent it from breaking randomly? This is the only browser having issues, I'm almost positive is some bug and not a configuration thing, given that it happens under multiple circumstances and devices, while Edge and Chrome simply keep working just fine.

There is no consistent repro I can give, afaik it is just random, at some point Firefox just decides to stop working and I have to restart it. This disrupts my work and browsing activities as I can lose progress on input forms and similar actions.

I've had an ongoing issue with Firefox now for several months since upgrading to windows 11. When I try to copy text, or images, url's or anything really that is supposed to go to the clipboard, it copies a blank text with no data instead. I can copy text and images from other programs and even paste them into text fields on Firefox but I can't copy from Firefox to anything else and it's frustrating.

I recently got forced into upgrading Outlook in windows and hated it so I started using Thunderbird and surprisingly, I have the exact same issue there as well.

I have tried: Running Firefox in safe mode (Shift + Left Click) Resetting Firefox Switching Back to default themes Disabling hardware acceleration Updating to the latest Beta Build (v126) Running Firefox Developer edition

I really want to get this fixed and working, I don't want to have to switch to another browser =/.

The pinned shortcuts on my newtab page have all disappeared once again. I've gone to about:config > browser.newtabpage.pinned and my shortcuts are all listed. But only blank boxes show up on the page. It will not accept a new entry when I try to enter one. It goes back to the blank white box. Why does this keep happening? Can anyone give me a Firefox for Dummies way to fix this?? Thanks!

OS: W11Ent_x64 V: 22h2 (b: 22621.3447) FF: 124.0.2 x_64 I tried several "Group Tabs" add-ons, like: Simple Tab Groups. Tab Group. And I few I can't even recall the name from. Yet, none works. Not ONE.

Now, I use Edge as well, on my corporate system that I got from work. Personal PC I use FF on.

But, the Edge Tab Grouping, which allows tabs to be "put to Eco-Sleep", while hidden the open tabs by clicking the Group-Tab Icon, is a feature I sorely miss in Firefox.

Odd, as, so many requested this feature, how come it has not been implemented over the many years of people asking?

Either way: Does anyone know a good, WORKING add-on that does the "Edge Thing" with FF tabs, please? Since, I often got like 200 tabs open, which is a real misery without Tab Grouping and "Hiding".

Today I completely uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox. Since doing this, the taskbar icon is not the same as it has always been.

It used to be that if I pinned Firefox to the taskbar, I would click on it and the default Firefox window would open. When the mouse was right-clicked, the icon showed there was a choice of the default Firefox window and an option for a privacy window I could choose. I did that frequently.

Now if I pin Firefox to the taskbar there is no privacy window option. If I pin the private browser to the taskbar, this becomes the default window with options for the non-private default browser available with a right mouse click.

I would like to know how to pin the default Firefox window to the taskbar and have the private window option show up when that icon is clicked please.

I've been using the Firefox browser, and recently when downloading files with Firefox, sometimes it prompts: .part could not be saved, because the source file could not be read. # see image #1 I'm trying to download file to disk D. But the fail tips is download .part file to disk C. Maybe firefox is using some file cache policy which I don't know. I also checked both two location, my account have read/write access.

I can try to resume the download, and the download progress will increase, but about half a second later it will fail again. If the file is small and my internet speed is fast enough, after several attempts the file will eventually download successfully. # see image #2 I have tried using "private window" or enter "about:profiles" to create/use a new and clean profile, but the issue still persists. # see image #3 I tried using other download tools like "Internet Download Manager", and the download was successful. It's ok for use chrome to download the same file to same disk location. The problem recently emerged, it didn't exist before. At least a month ago, the same computer didn't have this issue. I'm not using parental controls.

Enivronment: OS: Windows 10 professional 22H2 Firefox version: "124.0.2 (64 位)", auto update is enabled, it should be the newest version. security software: windows defender

I use Firefox as my browser but since yesterday I am unable to use it. Each time I click on the firefox icon I am directed to a French Microsoft browser - are you able to help?

HI, I have a Mac with El Capitan OS and Firefox 78.15.0esr. Recently I can´t open some websites: ChatGPT, Likendin, TunnelBear, Wester Union, etc. Before everything was working perfect. Please HELP! Thanks friends :) When I try to open this website, nothing happens, nor an error, sometimes in certain website it keeps retrieving and thats it.

I am afraid to update to Firefox 124 for fear of losing the existing order of 100s of open tabs if the default setting of ordering tabs by "Recently Opened" kicks in before I have a chance to change the setting to "Tab Order". Can anyone help me? I'd like to upgrade to 124 if I can do so safely!
