I was wondering if Thunderbird can play an mp3/wav song as the e-mail alert or is it restricted to just a maximum 5 second sound file? I installed Tonequilla and tried some of the sounds that came with that but TB would only play the smaller files so I am guessing there is a restriction. I am using TB v 52.7.0 in a linux environment but I have also have V 52.7.0 on a windows xp computer as well. You already know this but when you browse for sound files from within TB it does not recognize mp3 files only WAV and OGG the other aspect is that WAV files are enormous in comparison e.g in the attached image there is an extract from a song The Brightest Star. TB plays the OGG file but will not play the MP3 or the WAV and the WAV being uncompressed is significantly larger. I also installed Mailbox Alert, there is a Command feature in that and I was wondering if that can be programmed to launch and play an MP3 track as an alert although I would be at a loss as to what commands to put in there. TBIRD displays my search results in a new tab. This removes the context of my search from the historical flow of emails It also clutters the window with unneeded information. Remembering that computers are to assist us, not complicate our lives, I need TBIRD to highlight results in the INBOX tab. I can then quickly scroll or jump to each to find the match I need. Once found, I can then sort based on Address, Subject etc, to bring together just the emails I need. Additionally, I am able to find a particular email with all the date related emails around it. I am endeavoring to be empathetic that some of y'all want a separate tab for the results. However, I wish to politely note that my way yields more tools. Can we live on the same globe with what we both need?

When I use Thunderbird's Quick Filter and have both Unread and Starred selected, it will only show messages that are both unread and starred.

I want to see all messages that are either unread or starred or both.

Before upgrading to the Beta version, account settings was popping up but only as a small window I couldn't do anything in at the bottom. After the upgrade, the tiny box moved to the top of the screen. How do I make it regular size again? Picture attached. Already restarted Thunderbird and computer a ew times.

My Quick Filter Bar has been disappearing for years. I add it back by selecting View-Tools-Quick Filter Bar but eventually it will disappear again. It will remain a few weeks or so and then it will be gone. I don't know the behavior that causes it to disappear. My only guess is that I coincidentally hit some sequence of keys that de-selects the option. Any ideas on how I can prevent this? I have version 52.5.2 (64-bit) but it has occurred for many, many versions. I would very roughly guess it has been occurring for over 6 years.

I have folders in Gmail for work, personal, business, etc, and my contacts are all members of related groups. Or I can set up mailing lists in Thunderbird that are similar. I want to make a filter that has a command "if sender is member of XXX group, moves XXX folder." Other mail clients allow me to do so. Can Thunderbird?

we are different users on the same computer at home so we've different accounts on the same thunderbird. Generally every thing is going well but also sometimes the dialog box to choose the account doesn't appear...

Some received emails need to be answered inline. They could be HTML or text. The received email is almost always black text, so I want my reply to be in red, blue, maybe green, while the received text is in its original color. I've tried various setting changes in Tools/Options/Composition & Display. I also have my View/Text Encoding set to Unicode. thanks, Ron

I am using FiltaQuilla (add-on) in Thunderbird to save the attachments of received e-mails (filtered on domain, e.g. "@example.com") to a specific folder for each sender. But for some reason, all saved files are empty. The file name is correct, so all attachments seem to saved, but without their content. I checked the attachments in the mails: they are not empty files.

I've added a screenshot of one of the filters (my apologies, but it's in Dutch). A little translation: Filter: - From, contains, @example.be Actions: - Move message to, VERWERKT (other folder in mailbox) - Save attachments to, C:\FTP\...\...\MAIL_IN - Mark as read

This is a very weird problem, and I cannot figure out the cause. All help is very much appreciated, every hint might get me on the trail to the cause and solution!

When trying to add items to Toolbar via 'Customise' i.e. add print symbol to header- just shows no entry sign wherever I try to drag it to - I also can't reorder the items by 'click and drag'. These problems occurred recently, presumably an update was added automatically and reset my settings.

How do I set T-bird to use the Canadian English dictionary by *default*? Currently, it's defaulting to US-English, and it's tedious to have to set each individual email language to Canadian.

I'm running T-Bird on Windows 10 (laptop) and Enterprise 7 (work/desktop). Both of those systems have Canadian English as the default. My area settings are for Canada.

FYI: Thunderbird does not have an official downloadable version of Canadian English language version here: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/all/ BUT there is a Canadian English add-on here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/language-tools/ I have the latter installed, and it works when I reset the email to Canadian English (see screenshot for the process).

I used MS Access VBA command docmd.sendobject to send SMS type to SMS gateway. If I use the option "view mail", so that the mail window opens, the mail is sent as "plain text" as needed. However if I set to "view mail" disabled, basically the mail is passed through, and is sent as HTML and therefore rejected. In Thunderbird I have both types of mail in my email sent box. I have set in the Thunderbird general Options already everything to plein text and even indicated the "sms.at" as domain for plein text. Question is: As it does not work, what do I have to set, that all mails (also mails generated with a command from external source) and not opened with "View Window" are sent as PLAIN TEXT? Thany you in advance for your help
