Perform a System File Check to fix corrupted system files

Thank you FredMcD.
SFC left me with one file it cannot repair: netw5v64.sys
Quote:
Cannot repair member file [l:24{12}]"netw5v64.sys" of netw5v64.inf, Version = 6.1.7600.16385, pA = PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE_AMD64 (9), Culture neutral, VersionScope = 1 nonSxS, PublicKeyToken = {l:8 b:31bf3856ad364e35}, Type = [l:24{12}]"driverUpdate", TypeName neutral, PublicKey neutral in the store, hash mismatch
This file is displayed four times in the CBS Log, don't know why.
Does anyone know where to find a known good copy? I don't have access to a lot of computers, maybe at work, if the file is also to be found in later Windows versions.
Can the online download offers be trusted?
Thanks again.
hi, i don't think the crash will be due to a corrupt system file...
- can you try to do a clean reinstall of firefox? manually delete the firefox program folder (usually placed in "c:\program files\mozilla firefox") and the reinstall a fresh copy from https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/
- in case a clean reinstall didn't work, please try to see if it's possible to open the profile manager, create a new profile and launch this way: Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles
netw5v64.sys = Windows driver for your wireless device
One article says to update the drivers for your wireless card
Thank you Philipp and Fred McD.
First of all, Firefox started running yesterday without any changes. First in safe mode, then as usual. So right now I'm scanning the system for malware.
I updated the driver for the wireless device and now sfc scans without problems, thanks again.

Keep us posted.
Firefox is still running smoothly. No malware found, only minor issues. Could disk space be an issue? The ssd has 55G, but Windows has grown to 45G. Actually, I don't have any other clue.
How big is your disk, and how much room is left?
Windows sits on a 55G SSD and occupies about 45G. There is a regular HD, which has more space left.
I would suggest taking those file you seldom use and moving them to an external hard drive to free up some space.
Yes I will have to find out which Windows files can be migrated, that's a good idea.
Thank you!
Not any system files. Files you don't use; Movies, data, other such information.
That is a misunderstanding. The SSD has only Windows, which has grown to 45 GB. All other data (programs, clips etc.) are on a different drive. I tried to shrink Windows with a MS routine discarding older fragments and unused parts, which resulted in about 4 GB freed space. But now I'm not sure what else can be done.
Leaving you only 10 Gigs to work with. In today's world, it's not very much.
Have you priced getting a bigger drive installed?
When I got my current Windows 7, I had a 1 T hard drive. I later got a 3 T external for my off system/backup stuff.
