Sometimes a webpage is no longer available because it has been removed or the server returns an error, such as DNS errors. Firefox for Android can help you check whether the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine has a saved version of that page.

If an archived copy is available, you can open it with a single tap.

Use the Wayback Machine

When Firefox displays a page unavailable error, such as DNS errors, you may see a View archived version button.

1. Open a webpage that displays a supported page unavailable error.
2. Tap View archived version.

   

3. Firefox checks whether the Internet Archive has an archived version of the webpage.
4. If an archived copy is available, Firefox opens it automatically.
5. If no archived version exists, Firefox lets you know that no snapshot is available.

   

How it works

The View archived version button only appears on supported page unavailable errors.

Firefox sends the webpage address (URL) to archive.org only after you tap the button. Firefox does not automatically check webpages in the background.

The Internet Archive operates the Wayback Machine independently of Mozilla.

Things to know

• Not every webpage has an archived copy.
• Some websites may prevent their pages from being archived.
• In some countries or regions, archive.org may not be accessible.
• If Firefox cannot reach the Wayback Machine, you'll see a message explaining that archived content isn't available.
