I use Firefox on an computer with Ubuntu, (installed as snap) and have noticed that since the update to version 140, closing a tab causes a noticeable delay : that is, upon any action that would close a tab (clicking on the cross, pressing CTRL+w, or middle clicking), there is a delay of about 200 to 300 ms before the tab is actually closed.

However, during this delay, the window still responds to inputs, leading to rather annoying situations. For example, during regular usage, I usually open a great number of tabs. When I am done with browsing, I close them, by repeatedly closing the cross button on the tabs. It used to be that the tab under the cursor would immediately close, then the next tab would slide under the cursor, and I would click again to close that one, etc.

But now, when clicking the cross button, the tab is not closed, and when I click again after a small delay (because of muscle memory), the tab is still there. This cause the two clicks to be treated as a single double-click, which for some reason puts the window in full-screen mode (but only with the snap version; I'm not sure what's going on here).

When using CTRL+w when closing tabs, the delay is still there, but the inputs are correctly handled. If I press CTRL+w three times at the usual rate, I can see the three key presses, then nothing happens for a few instants, then the three tabs close at the same time (i.e. the delay is from input to tab close, not from tab close to other tab close).

This behaviour is completely absent on Firefox (also version 140) on my windows computer.

This delay does not appear when creating tabs, and it does not occur either when closing the window or when closing the last tab in the window (leading to an amusing situation where shutting down Firefox is actually faster then closing a tab). These operation keep going at their previous speed, immeasurably fast to the human eye.

Navigation does not appear to be meaningfully slower than before the update, and the CPU/memory usage is very reasonable.

Curiously, this appears to be a fixed delay. Closing an empty tab takes the same time as closing a very busy one. Closing a tab when there are five takes the same time as closing a tab when there are thirty.

This issue makes browsing feel incredibly sluggish.

Is there a solution for this problem ?

I have been runnign Thunderbird for a number of years. Several days ago when I started the app it said it was compacting the Gmail ALL Messages folder. It would never finish. So I downloaded the 139 version of Thunderbird, and installed it. When I try and start it I get a message at the bottom that says tomdyer72@gmail.com: looking up imap.gmail.com. It never comes off of that. After a few minutes, or if I click anywhere else in Thunderbird, I get the "Home - Mozilla Thunderbird (Not responding) at the top of the screen, and it will time out with the cnacle, or continue waiting message.

I have tried uninstalling all versions, and re-downloading the 139, and it still does the same thing. How can I recover this without losing all of my stored emails>

Can I limit spell check so that it does not check the original message when I am replying to or forwarding an email.

I'm finding that the original email address is always being flagged and bad spelling by original author I don't want to correct.

I am running Thunderbird 139.0.2 (64-bit). I have two address books. In Tools > Settings > General > Message List the box beside Show only display name for people in my address book is checked. Nonetheless, the Message List Pane displays several Contacts in my Address Book with both full name and email address.

If I right click on the name and email address in the Message Preview Pane and click Add to address book the name and e-mail address do not revert to Display Name only. If I right click them again there is still the Add to address book option, with no Edit Contact option, as if the Contact had not yet been added.

In some cases after adding the Contact to the address book there is only the Display Name in the Message List Pane but this display name is neither of my address books.

Hello, I have just upgraded to windows 11. On firefox I used to be able to right mouse click on the firefox icon in the taskbar to select my saved saved (Pinned) websites. In the past with Windows 10 I right mouse clicked on the url of favorite websites then drag and drop on the firefox icon in the taskbar and that was it. On Windows 11 that no longer works. How do I pin my favorite websites to the firefox icon in the taskbar on Windows 11? I thank anyone for your help.

Hello! I had to change my laptop for work and there were very important settings, passwords, etc., which I successfully restored on new devices. I forgot my password and had to reset it via email, after which I can't sync. I don't have visited tabs or anything else. Please restore my account history. I was not aware of the data being cleared when resetting the password.

hope everybody is doing well. I´m coming here with with asking for a help.

I´m managing browsers (Google Chrome, MS Edge and Firefox) in my company via GPOs. What we´ve been dealing with since 135 version came up is having the "Did Not Connect: Potential Security Issue error page , Error insufficient cert transparency" while visiting our internal resources.

Despite of having the security.pki.certificate_transparency.disable_for_spki_hashes set up -> main three certificate hashes are correctly added, basically copying the setup from Chromium browsers , where everything works as expected , Firefox is not.

The only way how to make it work is via security.pki.certificate_transparency.disable_for_hosts , which is , of course, not desirable , because of the security risks.

Does anyone face the same issues ?

I really enjoyed using Firefox on iOS. It is so much better than other browsers in terms of continuity. However, I do find that there’s one particular thing that Firefox can do better—how to access bookmarks.

“Bookmarks” on the Homepage should be able to be put on top. On the current version, the location of “Bookmarks” is fixed on the bottom of the screen, below “Shortcuts” and “Jump back in”. For many users, including myself, bookmarks are more convenient than Shortcuts. It would be great to move it up top.

And it should be able to show folders. I have a lot of bookmarks, so I have to group them in several folders. What current version does is probably guessing which specific one you want to pick and show it, and the hierarchy is dismissed. So maybe it should show it exactly how it is on the desktop.

I am looking for an app that I can use to scan business cards, where the output can be easily imported into my Thunderbird address book. Any environment will serve, though I would prefer something that is available in Linux, Windows 10 and Android versions. I really need to free up some real estate on my desk, and getting rid of stacks of business cards would solve most of that problem.

Recently, the Thunderbird email product quit working propertly. It requires me to log into the account each time I wish to open an email. This has been happening for the last week to 10 days. I have to reenter my password each time. Example, I open an email after logging in for the whatever many times it has been during the day, and I need to answer the email but need to get some information first. I go get the information and the email program requies me to log in again, even if it has been just a few minutes. This has not happened in the past. I have been using Thunderbird for a very long time, many many years and never had this happen before. I loaded the program on my laptop that I use when I travel or am not at home. Same thing happens with it.

This is highly frustrating and time wasting to have to do that. There is nothing I have found that shows me how to address this. My phone has a different email program and that does not happen when using the phone. And like I said, I have been using this email program for a very long time and have not experienced this in the past.

Is there access to a user's manual or some quick guide to help me with this? I am not a tech newby, but I'm not an IT professional either, which was why I choose using Thunderbird many years ago. It seemed user friendly at that time.

Within the last couple of days, while using Thunderbird, my list of unread emails disappears and I get a box that pops up that says: "The folder 'inbox on johnking2@comcast.net' could not be compacted because writing to folder failed. Verify that you have enough disc space, and that you have write privileges to the file system, then try again." If I click OK, my list of emails returns for a short while. I have no idea what to do, as nothing has changed, that I am aware of. I have a SD hard drive with about 17% space available. This is on a Dell laptop with i7 processor. Please help!

I lost all my bookmarks with the most recent update of Firefox. And now, it won't even let me bookmark anything. It just doesn't respond at all. I have an html of an older version of my bookmarks and was just going to re-populate my bookmarks, but that doesn't work. Plus, when I try and see my download history... nothing there either.

When assigning a URL to the mediaplayer object it started appending the current path to the URL. Did not do that in prior version. You can see it automatically puts the current browsing URL and then the URL that is assigned. So the file will not load. allow audio and video is preset as the default, however, it is still muted. when you got to mute audio it won't play the video, and no audio/video seems to be working fine, I've followed all the guides, tried everywhere I'm aware of in firefox and nothing seems to work

I watch Rakuten Viki, and suddenly a recapcha box is popping up on the bottom right, blocking the full screen button.... so annoying,,,, how can i get rid of it/ THANKS
