I have been using Thunderbird for well over a decade and LOVE it! I do not know when this occurred and how but I have two Sent folders, one is called 'Sent' and the other is called 'Sent Messages.' Actual sent messages go to the 'Sent' folder but as both are protected folders, I cannot delete the 'Sent Messages' folder and would very much like to. Can you please tell me how to accomplish this?

Thank you, Paul

Running 128.4.2esr (64-bit) on Mac Book Pro (14-inch, 2021 - Apple M1 Max).

I have been using Thunderbird across multiple accounts for years, and have collected a really decent amount of email history. Quick-Filters have always formed a large part of my workflow to find emails from given people. I do not take the time to filter messages into sub-folders etc, but rely on these tools to access the mails I need to get to.

In these recent versions, the Quick Filters have stopped working for me across all of my accounts.

When I attempt to use them, by entering a part of someone's email address, or part of a known subject, then click on the filter type I want to use, the indictor to show that the filter is active never changes. I use a dark theme, and expect the filter option to show it's actively applied with the light blue indicator on the filter's button. - This never happens.

In addition, while the displayed contents of the mailbox folder change, the filter itself is never appropriately applied to limit the content which is shown.

I had been sitting patiently on the sidelines hoping that this would be fixed in a new release, but I can't see much evidence of others suffering this same problem yet, and so I don't believe this is being addressed as a bug (yet).

I have enabled Troubleshooting mode to check with add-ons disabled etc, and that hasn't changed this behaviour for me.

This is quite an issue for me as it's affecting how easily I can use my local client. I've ended up having to return to webmail in order to find emails which I should be able to find in my client.

Anyone else having these problems? - Thanks.

I created an export .zip from Tbird on my current Win10 PC, intending to import it into a new Tbird installation on my new Win 11 PC. This is the second such migration: I did my own mailboxes no bother last night but this time its my wife's. My pack was less than 2GB, hers is just over.

I unzipped at the target PC, and attmpted the import. It failed with this error: Uncaught (in promise) DOMException: Could not open `C:\Users\marie\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\39la2kp7.default\prefs.js': file does not exist (NS_ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND)

Is there any alternative to demanding even deeper pruning of her archived messages?

I tried to create a default Windows profile with pre-configured app settings, including FF. I created a temporary user, logged in, installed FF and configured it, also installed some add-ons (first of all, ublock origin). Then I logged out, logged as an administrator and moved the temporary user profile to the default profile location (c:\Users\Temp -> c:\Users\Default), and then reset its NTFS permissions. This almost always works for all applications, including Google Chrome. I created a new user and logged in, opened FF. The settings were applied, but the extensions did NOT work, and even the buttons on the toolbar looked like empty squares. At the same time, the add-ons were present in the list of add-ons in settings, although without icons. It helped to turn off and turn on all the add-ons one by one, manually.

After some research, I realized that FF binds its settings to absolute paths to add-on files (*.xpi), specifically in the $profile/extensions.json and $profile/addonStartup.json.lz4 files. Google Chrome, for example, doesn't do anything simular, like the vast majority of applications. Removing these files from the profile will cause all add-ons to be "reinstalled" on first launch and set to a disabled status.

An easier way to reproduce the problem: 1. Run firefox -profile d:\temp\profile1 2. Install some extensions. 3. Rename profile1 folder to profile2. 4. Run firefox -profile d:\temp\profile2 5. Got it!

For what purposes does firefox bind to absolute add-on paths, and how can this problem be solved? P.S. I know about portable firefox from PortableApps.com, but I don't want to use a third-party loader for my tasks.

Background I wanted to give Thunderbird a shot because I really, really got tired of Outlook and their shenanigans. About 2 months ago, I tried it a first time and had an issue that prevented me from sending emails from my Hotmail email accounts. I gave up after a week of troubleshooting.

Outlook has come up with more bugs and shenanigans, so I tried again, convinced that there had to be a solution. And I found one. If anyone is interested, I was getting the error "Login to server outlook.office365.com with username <...> failed", and the way I fixed it was by replacing "hotmail.com" with "outlook.com" in the server settings. However, not all is fixed yet.

Current problem I noticed that the messages in my Outlook mail (other than the inbox) are not syncing properly. When I start TB, it appears to sync folders because I have seen new emails in subfolders already. However, if new emails come in while TB is open, it only syncs them if they are in my inbox.

I have looked around already and found that when I right-click that email account and I choose "Subscribe...", it presents me with an empty list and I can't see or enable/disable any folder subscriptions (refresh does nothing). This is strange because of 2 reasons: 1. All my subfolders are there, and they seem to sync when I start up TB. But even if I immediately open the subscribe window, the list is empty. 2. I have a total of 4 email accounts configured, 2 Outlook and 2 Gmail. All except for 1 Outlook account show me the list of folders in the subscribe window, so that made me think it was something in my Outlook account settings. However, nothing I can find there seems to be helpful.

Does anyone have an idea on how to fix this? I'd rather not close and re-open my TB app each time I want to check for new messages. I really want to give TB an honest chance but it's not making it easy for me to like it right now.

The situation is the following. I had the Geek Squad from Best Buy upgrade my Hp Envy laptop internal storage from 512 GB to 2 TBs Oct 29-31, 2024. I use Thunderbird and have done so for at least 19 yrs. I was told that I would need to download all the application programs again after the upgrade , but that all my data would be stored on the download they did from my internal storage to the new storage. I successfully reinstalled the Thunderbird Program. However I am missing all my contacts in my address books except for 24 names and addresses. I truthfully don't know how many I had in each address book but as I said I have been using this program for 19yrs. So it was in the hundreds. The Geek Squad member tried to fix this but was unable to locate the correct file that the address contacts might be located, I think he tried a mab file. They said that since it was a third party app that I should try Thunderbird Support. Have I lost all my addresses or is there a way to search for them using my new internal storage?. Since this is an HP laptop with a Microsoft 11, it has OneDrive so I am sure that there is a complication in finding the file once I know the type of file I need to be looking for. Thanks for any advice you can give on this matter.
