Hi, I get an "Install Add-on" tab pop-up every time I start Firefox. The message on the tab states "Another program on your computer would like to modify Firefox with the following add-on:

AVG Safeguard toolbar 15.0.0.2 by Safeguard toolbar Location: C:\ProgramData\AVG Safeguard toolbar\FirefoxExt\15.0.0.2

I do not wish to install this add-on and the folder listed above does not exist, (perhaps that is the potential location for the add-on). I have had this same issue before, with the same add-on, and was able to get the tab to stop showing up. However I have been unable to do so now. I just need to know how to get the tab to stop popping up when I start Firefox. Thank you.

Hello Ryan.

Try this: Go to Firefox icon and click on ADD-ONS, then try to find the AVG Safeguard toolbar add-on and click on REMOVE. If you don't find it on add-ons, then you can try installing it and then removing it following the steps above.

I hope I could help.

Under Tools > Addons > Extensions I found AVG toolbar 15.0.0.2 earlier today and disabled it, but it had no effect. It is still disabled and the tab still pops up. I also found an AVG folder in C:\program files\common folder earlier and was able to delete it after finding and terminating a process that was preventing deletion. That was also earlier today. Still the tab keeps popping up when I start Firefox. I have not been able to find a way to simply delete the AVG extension under Addons. While other extensions have a Remove option, the AVG one has only Enable and Disable. Also, it does not show up in the Firefox extensions folder.

After reading that many people have had difficulty removing the AVG toolbar, I am reluctant to install it. I had considered that option, however, since I have at least seen posts regarding that particular problem. However, it seems that AVG is a company that has no problem behaving like a virus so I am not thrilled by the idea of actively installing anything from them.

This problem resulted from installing Winzip earlier, although I did not authorize the inclusion of any other programs or options. I tried uninstalling Winzip but that did not stop the tab pop-up, either. Regardless, I will never use Winzip again. The last time this happened, it was due to a Flash Player update, and I have not since allowed any of those, either. These companies may as well be knowingly including a virus with their products, considering how much frustration is involved. Thanks for the reply, however.

Try to find the AVG toolbar among the programs you have installed in your computer. Go to: Windows > Control Panel > Programs and Recurses. Then try to find anything about AVG and look if there is the AVG toolbar installed there and an option to uninstall it.

AVG was listed when I went to uninstall a program earlier, but when I tried to uninstall, an error came up that said it was not found. After some time and frustration i went back and tried again with the same result, and just removed the program from the list. It doesn't show up under programs anymore. The only place I see anything regarding AVG now is under Tools > Addons > Extensions, but there is no option to remove it. I think I've pretty much exhausted my options. I'm just hoping someone who has dealt with this specific problem can tell me exactly how they fixed it. Failing that, I was hoping someone from Mozilla could tell me how to block the pop-up. This problem does not occur when I open Internet Explorer. Maybe I will just uninstall Firefox and reinstall to see if that works.

Also you can also try to restore your system for a previous date before you had installed AVG. Another option is to find a tool to clean up your computer and properly uninstall unwanted programs. Personally I use Glary Utility, but there are a lot of other helpful softwares. Just be aware because as long as you install it most of them offers you options to install something else in your computer, so if you ever try to install anything you have to pay attention on those "offers" and install only the program you want to avoid problems.

Yeah I am always on the lookout for programs trying to tag others on with them when they are installed. I finally got fed up and checked the box to allow the installation of the toolbar, figuring my next step is going to be to uninstall Firefox anyway, and after restarting Firefox and my pc, it doesn't look like anything was installed and I still get the popup. Gotta love some of these pos companies that work like viruses to try to force themselves on people.. Thanks for the suggestions, I think I just need to reinstall Firefox, and if that doesn't work, I will just get rid of Firefox for good.

I just went with System Restore and it worked. Thanks for the suggestion.
