$ dnf list installed | grep firefox firefox.x86_64 100.0-4.fc36

Since upgrading to Fedora 36, Firefox seems to have stopped being stable at all. Having any add-ons enabled causes webpages to frequently break. Even in troubleshooting mode, I get a tab crash immediately on start, and infrequently during later browsing.

Troubleshooting mode has the same issues, trying a completely clean profile has the same issues. Chromium works with no issues.

See tab crash report here: https://pastebin.com/wNPFhpgN

I am fed up with this problem enough that I had to come here to complain and hopefully find out what the issue is. Every time I start Firefox, it will spend five minutes or longer before it starts to load a web page! All I will see is blank white tabs with the hourglass icon until at some point many minutes later it decides to begin loading the pages.

I've tried different connection settings (No Proxy, System Settings, Auto-Detect, etc.) and that doesn't do jack. Neither does flushing my DNS, or trying to go to a site I've never visited.

Just now, as I was sitting here waiting for the effing browser to detect the connection, I even tried unplugging my Ethernet cable and it didn't realize there was no connection available for several minutes! This is extremely annoying.

I'm using Firefox 100.0.1 on Windows 7, but I've been dealing with issue for several releases, I want to say since at least pre-FF95. I have VPNs installed and their service processes run in the background but I don't use them. Also they don't affect the connectivity of anything else.

Starting last night Firefox will not let me download anything. If I click on a download link, my Mac toolbar goes gray like normal, but no download dialog box ever appears. Please help me fix this.

Greetings. I can't open most sites I usually visit (even google.com) via my Firefox 98.0a1. This happens since today. All error codes are SEC_ERROR_LIBRARY_FAILURE.

Tried to:

  • Disable DNS-over-HTTPS.
  • Disable HTTP/3.
  • Disable proxy (never had it enabled anyway).
  • Disable sending info to Firefox developers.
  • Change settings of DNS-over-HTTPS.
  • Restart the browser (after each action).

Nothing helps me... But I still can visit some websites, but most common resources are not working for me. Please help me because I can't use Microsoft Edge without getting mentally ill. :/

Recently I installed the new Kubuntu 22.04 with the new thunderbird. It no longer opens browser links (at least it opens some, but most it doesn't).

I tried opening it in the console and got the following - the first parts when thunderbird opened and the last lines when I clicked on a link in an email message. The web address that it claims doesn't exist does, in fact, exist.

I've looked up all the help, suggestions about config.editor etc .... but none of it sees to work.

I whitelisted this website in all privacy-extensions, and because in a flits I saw that "firefox essentials" was blocking something - despite the whitelist - I uninstalled it. To no avail. On May 20, 2022, in a few days, Google will turn off "unsecure access" to Gmail from Thunderbird and Outlook. This will require changing the Thunderbird account settings from "Normal Password" to "OAuth2" for verification. Problem is OAuth2 verification will not work on my Windows 7 laptop. It just runs in circles. A Google page opens, asks my Google account password, accepts it, and then shows a page asking to allow access to the account. Saying yes just closes the window, but no mail gets POPed down to Thunderbird. In my testing, OAuth2 does work on my Windows 10 laptop. If you are as stubborn as me about still using the Win7 computer, you can change your Google account to use 2-factor verification. They will call you or text you every time you log in to the Google account itself, or you can buy a USB dongle. Once you have 2FA setup, you can go to the "Security" sidebar in your Google account, and create an "app password". I said "Mail" and "Windows Computer" and it generates a 16-letter password shown as all caps, but when cut-and-pasted in my Keepass password manager is all small case. You can then go back to, or stay at "Normal Password" in your Thunderbird account settings, and when the password to your Google account fails, put in the app password and check "Remember in Password manager". Then you can POP emails from Gmail again. I don't know if Outlook has these problems. I assume IMAP on Win 7 might have these problems. I did create a new T-bird profile just to try this out. I detailed that misery quest in a previous post: "Almost can get Gmail with 2FA" https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1369836

The sad thing is my Google password is 15 characters alpha mixed with numeric, I assume case sensitive, and also special characters. So it is much more secure than the app password Google assigned me. Especially more secure now that hackers know our email password is 16 alpha non-case-sensitive. Oh well, that's Google for you. Don't blame them, blame the idiots that set their passwords to Password1.

After figuring out this with the new test Google accounts I made, I just switched one of my three "real" Gmail accounts to 2FA, and an app password for mail. If I read right, if you try to outsmart the system and drop out of Google 2FA, it also invalidates all your app passwords as well.

It would be nice if the T-bird team could see why OAuth2 verification fails in Win7. I posted results in my T-bird error console in that previous post. I hope this is a weird thing that only affects me, but just in case, I thought I would post this for other Win7 dinosaurs out there.

Hi,

I have a strange problem with Thunderbird (currently 91.8.1 on Linux, but have this problem for a while). Initially (i.e. after each reboot) Thunderbird works normally but at some point when I start Thunderbird all I can see in the folders list are one entry for each account (see attached screenshot). I can still edit account details. But the only way to make it work again is to reboot my system. Just logging out and in is not sufficient. I tried to start Thunderbird in safe mote or to get some log details but nothing helped or got me a step further.

Today I experienced something new. I worked with Thunderbird and didn't close it (and also didn't suspend or hibernate the system). At some point when I wanted to visit the sent-item-folder I got an error message (unfortunately I didn't make a screenshot) that the folder couldn't be loaded. Then I couldn't open any folder. After restarting Thunderbird I had the problem of above.

Hope someone has an idea how to fix this.

Alex

This is to re-open thread 1296678.

I too have this problem, I suspect a failure mode and I have a work-around.

I'm now on TB 91.8.1 build 20220413002405 but this has been going on for at least 4 years - I reported it (here, I think) some years back but no one did a fix so I built the work-around.

For context purposes I now have over 4G of mailboxes going back to at least 1993 so not easy to do housekeeping. I started using TB in approx 2011 and imported the old mail from my Eudora installation at that time, meaning 8 years of use before the problem started. I also used Thunderpunger before the author ended support(and it doesn't work now) and I have noticed some odd artefacts coming from its use, primarily whole (very old) mail boxes suddenly appearing as "new". The mail boxes are nested to at least 8 deep in some places. I also have about 40 active filters. The installation is still using POP3 and fetches mail every 5 mins. The filters were all set to run on fetching new mail and essentially file the messages in different places. The point is that it is a substantial chunk of files. Nice and efficient (not) but its what I use.

The filters started failing in approx 2019 in that on a mail fetch an error message saying "unable to access mailbox blah" would appear. This appeared to be worst at system start-up when the overnight mail was streamed in. This was a pain because you have to click "ok" each time the warning box popped up. I also noticed that when the filters ran successfully they all worked ok. At first this seemed to always be certain mail boxes but there were no problems with the file system. In fact I followed the suggested remedies when I posted the thread in the support forum without improvement. I also attempted deleting the mailboxes and making new ones elsewhere in the mail system and thus in the file system but the problem persisted. It looks like TB is running out of resources during the pass on "run filters when fetching new mail" when this runs the first time on boot, but not subsequently.

The work around was to switch off all the flags saying "run on fetching new mail" and instead "run [on inbox] every 10 minutes". The problem is now completely absent.

Over to you guys

Over the past few days FireFox v. 99.0.1 had been non-responsive on a tab.

Got to the point I had to close FF and tried to use cCleaner to clear cache/history etc.

However cCleaner could not proceed as it claimed FF was still open.

Using Windows Task Manager I found FireFox was "Suspended" (screenshot 1)

I then terminated the task - so cCleaner could proceed.

Then FF appeared to work OK. Until the next time....

It just happened a few minutes ago closing FF - using cCleaner - once again FF was "suspended" and had to be terminated in Task Manager.

On FF help it said Update to version 100 which I did BUT the update got stuck on the FF Update - for several minutes (definitely over 10 mins) so I had to terminate the FF Updater using Windows Task Manager (screenshots 2 & 3) again used Task Manager to terminate that.

FF appeared to open OK even showed the version 100 What's new tab.

BUT when I used FF help to check version I got Restart FF to update to version 100 (screen shot 4) Perhaps the last might temporary due to terminating the what appeared to be stuck Updater, but it was worth mentioning.

PC details: OS Name Microsoft Windows 10 Home Version 10.0.19044 Build 19044 System Model HP Pavilion 590-p0097c Desktop PC System Type x64-based PC Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-8400 CPU @ 2.80GHz, 2808 Mhz, 6 Core(s), 6 Logical Processor(s) Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 8.00 GB

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,

I've tried all the troubleshooting steps and nothing works. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it but the problem is still there. I have found that I can open it if I run my laptop in safe mode with network, but it won't run in normal mode. I have a new laptop and want to move all my Firefox data there. Cannot take screenshot of problem (pop up ms from Amazon via Firefox) . . as soon as I pick up the phone or attempt any action whatsoever, the message box disappears. And since I have a fingerprint access option on, the moment my finger touches the screen for full access there is no record of the message for screen capture. Also, if I do nothing, the screen goes black (normal, with time/date etc visible) within a few seconds after the message appears . . though it is waiting for me to touch the screen at which time it reappears again for a few seconds. So it is pick up the phone . . trigger motion detection . . message box appears . . wait a couple of seconds . . black screen . . touch or pick up the phone . . message box . . black screen etc. I can of course do the fingerprint scan and have full phone features, but the preliminary nag "box message" all the time bugs the hell out of me. In the text of my "complaint" I quoted what the message says, it is not from Firefox but does have a tiny Firefox logo upper left. The small rectangular window also has a left/right "full return" arrow (grayed out each one) with a black "pause" button in between the two arrows, and it is not grayed out. However nothing happens if I touch it. In very small print under the main text (first few words of my Amazon review) is a link to the Amazon page where I posted a review of a product. The message itself that I refer to is NOT from Firefox, but is comprised of the first few words of my review headline (not all of it but most) on the Amazon product comment review page. So even though the "content" of the unwanted message is from Amazon, the Firefox logo nevertheless appears (very tiny) in the upper left of the rectangular window, so it appears to be a composite error interaction between Firefox and Amazon. How to tell Firefox to stop posting it? Or how to tell Amazon that their software is somehow involved? I haven't a clue . . ! This is a re-written complaint . . the original one resulted in an email request from "Seburo" who asked for a screenshot, but did not provide a return email address that functioned. So I am posting here a second time, thanks.
