Ever since I moved to the beta version of Firefox 4, I have lost the ability to view .pdf files in Firefox. I was convinced this was a problem totally with Firefox, but at around the same time I upgraded from an old G4 PPC laptop to a new Macbook Pro. Now I find I can't view .pdf files in Safari either. Is this a problem with Firefox, or a problem with the way I have configured my new computer?

On my Mac I said screw it to the new FireFox and reinstalled version 3.6 and now I'm back in business. Maybe in a couple months Adobe and the Fox will have it all ironed out so we don't have to waste precious time to get their items to function as well as they have in the past.

First off, it should be stated that Schubert-it's "PDF Browser Plugin" is a Mac-only solution. Second, it won't always work with Firefox 4. In my own experience, version 2.3.2 (the current version) "appears" not to work with Firefox 4 under MacOS 10.5.8, displaying a white screen instead of the PDF. However, this is just a screen refresh issue. Adjusting the browser window size after attempting to view the PDF will repaint the screen and allow one to see the content. Using version 2.3.1 under Firefox 4/MacOS 10.5.8 doesn't display this issue. PDFs can be viewed normally with this setup.

Under MacOS 10.6.7, I've been unable to get version 2.3.2 to work at all with Firefox 4, even with 32-bit mode enabled. Version 2.3.1 *will* work, but Firefox 4 must be set to 32-bit mode.

I don't know if Schubert-it is aware of these issues.

I was experiencing the same problem and it turned out to be a conflicting plugin. To troubleshoot, I went to Tools..Add-ons menu, selected the Plugins tab, and then disabled everything except the Adobe Acrobat plugin. After doing that, I could view PDFs in the browser again. Then I started enabling the disabled plugins one by one until I got to "PDF-XChange Viewer". That was the one causing the problem (in my case). I left it disabled. I hope this helps.

When I click on a link to a PDF, the URL that is rendered has 2 backward slash marks in it and takes me to the home page. When I change these 2 backward slash marks to forward slash marks, the PDF works OK. Any suggestions where to fix this?

I had this problem with at work, actually. I was using Firefox 3.6 on Windows XP, and it worked fine, but then I got a new computer running Windows 7, and so I had to download the newest version of Firefox, which is Firefox 4. When I couldn't open .pdf files, I asked my IT guy about it, and he said that there are some things (like Adobe reader) that Firefox 4 just doesn't play nice with, so I would have to open .pdf files in Internet Explorer.

If anyone has a better workaround or knows how to fix this issue, it would be greatly appreciated!

Disabling the PDFdownload add on did it for me, after trying a bunch of the troubleshooting suggestions from Mozilla. Bummer, I like the idea of PDF download, but it's better to be able to see them at all!

Actually my problem is that I can't print PDFs from Firefox 6.02. I have tried using Reader to no avail. Trying to Print to PDF crashes Firefox.
