My bookmarks went whacky, loading up many duplicates, most empty, I attempted to reload and after doing so just clicking on bookmarks froze everything. Would love my bookmarks as everthing is there, but will settle just having foxfire working again.

I sounds like you either have an infection on your computer or an extension installed on Firefox is causing an issue.

Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.
