Upon login Firefox sends me a text on Cellphone with a verification code. How do I stop this? It's costing me $1 a day.

Did you download Firefox from the official Mozilla server?

Do a clean (re)install and delete the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\).

Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible.

  • Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you will also lose your personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

hello, this sounds very disturbing and is likely the result of a malware infection on your computer. firefox doesn't require a login on startup, nor does it know your phone number and certainly isn't charging users anything.

please do a full scan of your system with your security software already in place & also use other tools like the free version of malwarebytes to do an indepth scan. for more information seeTroubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware.

i'd also recommend that you create a new firefox profile after you've installed a fresh copy of firefox like cor-el has described - this basically will reset all firefox settings & customizations to the default. when all other firefox windows are closed press the windowskey+r and open "firefox.exe -p" to run the profile manager and create a new profile like it is described here.

in case you find out which software or website is connected to this scam please report it to mozilla at: https://www.mozilla.org/legal/fraud-r.../index.html

This may be coming from FaceBook.com login approvals, which sends a text message or email when a login from another device detected. I was getting a text anytime I opened FaceBook for the first time in my browser.

I have the Firefox option selected to keep cookies until Firefox closes. Apparently FaceBook uses cookies to remember logins.

To disable the text messages, login to FaceBook.com, click the down arrow at the right side of the top line, select “Account Settings”, then select “Security” from the list on the left side. Edit “Login Approvals” and uncheck “Require me…”

BTW: A dollar a day to receive text messages? Sounds like you have a plan designed for low phone usage that charges a fee any day that the phone is used. Unless you use your phone for web browsing you might want to look into a PagePlus.com Standard Plan. It provides very basic phone and text service. Calls from $0.10 ($10 plan) to $0.04 ($80 plan) depending upon minutes purchased. Text messages are $0.05. The lower value plans require renewal every 4 months; the $80 plan lasts for a year and can be purchased online from several dealers. There is also a $0.50 monthly fee deducted from your balance. You will need a PagePlus phone, or, a Verizon network phone that either is purchased unlocked, or has not been active for over 6 months. Ask your friends if they have one collecting dust or get an unlocked Verizon phone or a PagePlus phone from ebay. You can port your current phone number at no charge by calling PagePlus customer service (they usually include a dollar or two of usage). To activate with a new number do an internet search to find a discounted activation service to save a few bucks off the PagePlus $10 activation fee. There may also be PagePlus dealers in your area that can set you up.
