Wyh did firefox 4 downgrade itself to 3.3.16?
I have downloaded firefox version 4 and installed it on my PC. One day later I have restarted the PC. When i started firefox it sait that there are updates which are beeing installed and then it asked me to make it the standard browser (which was strange because firefox was my standrd browser before) and suddenly I have version 3.6.16 on my PC instead of 4.

Are you the only user? If not, somebody might have used Windows System Restore to wind back the clock.
What I suggest you do is to use the Help | Check For Updates to upgrade to 4.0

OK, so try what I suggested already which is to go to Help | Check For Updates and then use that method of updating again.
