I have long had loss of functionality such as pull down menus in Youtube, even after trying to keep up with adobe flash.

A new tab is still created with from a link sent to new tab, but that's the only way.

Probably caused by the Ask Toolbar extension in Firefox 3.6.13+ versions, disable that extension or un-install it.
