153.5 esr has broken a lot of things, autoscroll, menu spacing, etc etc
Since today's update to esr 153.5 a lot of things have changed for the worse. One annoying thing is that Firefox always opens now in Minimised view...why? I've never used Firefox Minimised...so now every time I have to click Maximise. Another one was that the Hamburger menu items suddenly had huge spaces between everything...at least I was able to find someone on Google who had a css to fix that. But the same thing is happening in the right click menu also, I had a css for that for years but now that doesn't work. The other super annoying thing is the scrolling has totally changed, I always used to uncheck 'smooth scrolling' and check 'autoscrolling', although I never use what they say autoscrolling is supposed to be about...something about holding the middle button on the mouse?? All I know was that setup used to make the scrolling in Firefox excellent...now it's basically annoying smooth scrolling whatever I check or uncheck. The other thing is after this happened I uninstalled Firefox altogether, and reinstalled the 150.0esr version and all this stuff is the same...even though I was previously on 153.4esr...and it wasn't happening on that? So I suppose I might as well just update to the latest one then? And just put up with all this annoying stuff. By the way, I'm still using Windows 10...not one issue a year after all the doomsaying from Microsoft [Defender still gets security updates anyway?]...which makes me wonder about the so-called 'security' issues with using an older version of Firefox. Thanks, any ideas for ways to fix these things would be very much appreciated. Especially the scrolling thing.

I remembered you have to set privacy.resistFingerprinting in about:config to false to have Firefox open in maximised view for some reason. Also I managed to find css to fix the context menu spacing...
/* Right-click menu */ menupopup#contentAreaContextMenu menu, menupopup#contentAreaContextMenu menuitem {
padding-top:0px !important; padding-bottom:0px !important;
}
/* Bookmark and context menu spacing */ menupopup > menuitem, menupopup > menu {padding-block: 1px !important;} /* Options menu spacing */
- root {--arrowpanel-menuitem-padding: 0px 0px !important;}
Also, turning off smooth scrolling in Logitech mouse settings seems to have fixed the scrolling thing, even though that was always turned on before.

To fix the ridiculous vertical spacing for the top right hamburger menu:
Open about:config type browser.uidensity and reset it from the default of 0 to 1 Restart FF Sorted
Why, WHY do you do this Mozilla/Firefox?!! Stoppit, or make it really easy to fix. There used to be a compact mode which now doesn't work in about:config and which dopesn't appear anywhere under Settings

Incidentally, *most^ of my userchrome.css still works. Call me a Luddite but I just want to use teh browser, nit be constantly having to find where things have moved to or changed. YMMV
Instructions:
1. Open Firefox 2. Go to about:support 3. Scroll down to Profile Folder and click Open Folder 4. Go to (or create) folder 'chrome' 5. Put a file there which adjusts all the look and feel items in as "userchrome.css"
File userchrome.css below was created from the website https://www.userchrome.org/
The file created does things like narrows the height of the bookmarks side bar, stops the tabs at the top being "floating" and a bunch of other silly changes they made to the user interface (which few seem to like! hence the web site!). It's not a necessary file to have but just stops the incessant tweaking they do to the UI.
My userchrome.css file follows:
(copy from line below to the just before the End marker at the bottom and put into a text file named userchrome.css)
/*** Modifications to Firefox look and feel for post-Proton releases ***/ /*** Bookmarks - old narrow spacing ***/ /* Firefox userChrome.css */ /* following line commented out, doesn't seem to do anything */ /* @namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul");
