Emails keep returning to the Spam folder in Thunderbird

info14644

Hello Thunderbird Support,

I am using Thunderbird with an email account hosted by Webhosting UK (webhosting.uk.com).

I am experiencing an issue where legitimate emails, including booking notifications, are repeatedly moved to the Spam/Junk folder.

When I mark these messages as "Not Spam" and move them to the Inbox, they return to the Spam folder after some time.

I have already checked with my hosting provider and confirmed that the issue is not related to the hosting service.

Could you please provide a Thunderbird configuration guide or help me understand the correct settings to prevent legitimate emails from being repeatedly moved to the Spam/Junk folder?

I would appreciate step-by-step instructions on how to resolve this issue permanently.

Thank you for your assistance.

Check the spam column of the message list:

  • Messages that do not have the flame symbol were not put in the spam folder by Thunderbird. Therefore, marking these messages as not spam in Thunderbird does nothing to improve how these messages are handled. For these messages, a) IF your mail provider trains their spam handling based on you manually moving them back to the Inbox, then that is your best course of action, or b) IF your mail provider allows you to mark messages as not spam in their web interface then use that. If they offer neither capability, then you need a better provider.
  • Messages that do have the flame can be marked as not spam, which will train Thunderbird's system. But it is not a guarantee. To guarantee a message won't be changed to spam by Thunderbird you need to use combination of whitelist and filters which is documented in the KB article https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/thunderbird-and-junk-spam-messages. You should also train Thunderbird to mark good messages as "not spam", per the KB article.
