Support for s/mime certificates and encryption

Hi, I’ve been using Thunderbird Desktop for years with S/MIME encryption. Since S/MIME is not currently supported in Thunderbird Mobile, I can’t use it on my mobile device.

Is S/MIME support planned for a future release?

Thanks.

We have had several discussions about encryption (GPG and S/MIME) in the app. This isn't in our roadmap for 2026, though might be something we add to 2027. For now we are prioritizing PRs that align with our 2026 roadmap.

In the meantime, you can show support for the feature by voting for it on Mozilla connect link below. https://connect.mozilla.org/t5/ideas/s-mime-support-for-k-9-mail-android/idi-p/61756
