Opening new messages has changed from "one click" to "double click" operation.

I'm running Thunderbird Ver 152.0.1 with Windows 11. I have things set up so that I just need a single click to open a program, folder or file.

This also was the case until just recently with Thunderbird. I could open new messages with just a single click. For some reason this has changed to me needing to double click to open new messages.

I don't know why and cannot find any method of changing the software back to single click operation. It is only affecting Thunderbird all the Windows operations still operate with one click.

Can you advise me on how to reset the Thunderbird software to single click operation.

Many thanks. Alan Tierney

There is no such option in Thunderbird, nor has there ever been. You must double-click an entry in the Messages List to open it in tab or new window, depending on how you have set that preference.

However, if you are showing the Message Pane (press F8 to reveal/hide it) selecting a message in the list will show the message there, or at least as much as will fit. You might try out the options in <View | Layout> to see which you prefer.

With respect, Lin if, as you claim, there is no such option nor has there ever been to open a new message with a single click how come I could do it until a few days ago. I think it coincided with me installing Ver 152.0.0. I can't be sure because it is only happening on my secondary machine which I seldom use to download mail. On my primary machine, also running Ver 152.0.1, I can still open new messages using "one click"

I was just intrigued as to why it had changed and wondering if I could reverse the change. As it is only happening on my secondary machine it is no great problem.

Regards Alan
