When starting Thunderbird, the status line shows logging in to server but loops; no errors, Thunderbird is 'locked out' waiitng/spinning.

The system was working fine. The next day, when starting Thunderbird (TB, the status line shows logging in to server but loops; no errors or messages, Thunderbird is 'locked out' spinning. I see the normal INBOX page, but logging in never completes. NO CHANGES were made to TB accounts or settings. I have re-installed TB, re-booted, but no change. I cannot check/change any of the accounts or do any further 'debugging' because TB is spinning. The server login is fine because Webmail can be used. Internet connection is fine, because browser works. 1. How can I stop TB from trying to login at start up? 2. What could/would cause this behaviour?

Any suggestions much appreciated.

in what I'm sure is the right profile (gpsqti12.Al, which shows in the Profile Manager as 'Al') I see the Mail folder, and within that the Local Folders folder. Per your last reply, the ONLY account 'server settings' shows pop.mail.yahoo.com with Port 995 (the default) so that looks right. Also in the Local Folders, I see what appears to be the missing Messages. However, I also see almost all of the Messages with a preceding "." then the (almost) same list of Messages WITHOUT the preceding "." Within the Mail folder, I also see: - Local Folders-1 - pop.mail.yahoo.com - pop.mail.yahoo-1.com - pop.mail.yahoo-2.com

I'm guessing (hoping?) that all my manipulations have doubled up the Messages? Why would I see the other Local Folders-1 and the 2 extra pop.mail.yahoo server names?

In any case, TB still comes up as expected, downloads new messages (to Inbox) from the server but the only Local Folders are Trash and Outbox. There are now a few thousand Inbox messages (expected: Messages this 'new' account hasn't seen and new ones coming in). The Local Folders only show Trash and Outbox.

I believe 'we' are getting close but not quite there yet. Anything further appreciated - thanks.

Ed: One more thing I just noticed that may answer some of my previous reply questions...

In the Account Settings, I see the 'Message Storage' Local Directory is as expected, ending in: gpsqti12.Al\Mail\pop.mail.yahoo-2.com

Same question - Why are there 3 pop.mail.yahoo??.com servers if only the -2 is being used?

I'm not sure, but it's not uncommon for something like that to happen.

What's in Local Folders-1?

"Also in the Local Folders, I see what appears to be the missing Messages."

Just lots of messages not in subfolders, along with - Local Folders-1, pop.mail.yahoo.com, pop.mail.yahoo-1.com, and pop.mail.yahoo-2.com? If so,

I don't know what the .xxx messages are, or where they came from.

Ed: PROGRESS!!

Login is working as expected and I now see users locally defined folders and the messages! Generally 'things' look very good; I'm awaiting a review by the user to confirm things are back "to where they should be".

I would appreciate your comments and understanding on a few outstanding/curious issues...

1. Previously, I typed:

=

However, I also see almost all of the Messages with a preceding "." then the (almost) same list of Messages WITHOUT the preceding "."

=

Any idea why that is?

2. I don't see how to view the previous posts here. I see the first one and the last few, but there are 23 replies. How do I see/review those?

3. I'm looking for where the Local Folder (or Local Folder-1) is defined. I believe it was in one of our previous exchanges.

4. Previously, I had asked/suggested that the Profiles layout and information documentation could/should be available, pending propriety issues. My understanding is that since Mozilla & Thunderbird are 'open source' that information should be available. Comments?

Again, thanks A LOT for your patience and knowledge; I'm fairly confident the TB system is working as desired.

I plan on following up with any further confirmation of that and possibly more questions.

1. No idea.

2. Scroll to bottom of page. On the lower left side above 'Post Reply' are page numbers. Click '1' to see from the beginning.

3. Page 1?

4. "Profiles layout and information documentation" - where did you ask that? What info specifically do you want to see?

Ed:

Thanks for pointing out the obvious for getting to previous messages - sorry.

Re: profiles layout, on page 1 6/30/26 5:17PM I typed:

I understand the need for proprietary information, but could/should the format & content of the TB Profiles, which would define the EXPORTed (.ZIP) Profile format, be defined and available someplace?

At this time, nothing specific, since you've kindly guided me through the areas/settings/profile contents I needed. I was just wondering/hoping that the Profile contents, uses, etc. are documented for those of us who are able to read, check, find information for a specific problem.

I've taken a copy of the now working Profile, so any reply is appreciated, but not required.

I consider the initial problem (failure at login) and the data (folders, etc.) recovery solved.

Thank you very much again for your patience.
