How do I restore the toolbar at the bottom of my Thunderbird email that allows me to click on & designate Junk, Delete, etc.? It suddenly disappeared.

Have you tried to (re-) start Thunderbird in "troubleshoot mode"? https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-mode-thunderbird
