My thunderbird 91.3.2 on Centos 7.9.2009 locks up with 100% cpu usage when I go into preferences. This doesn't happen when I try with --safe-mode. But I have tried disabling or removing everything I can see under Add-ons and Themes and it still hangs without the --safe-mode.

It is probably a language pack, which can be removed at tools > add-ons

Thanks Wayne. I though I'd tried that, but it seems not. When I removed the en_GB language pack, it worked again. But I'm confused, everything still seems to use British spelling. I guess that's because I download the en_GB version. So what is the purpose of the language packs? Are they obsolete?

As you found, language packs are not for spelling.

As an example, I can install en_GB language pack on a German Thunderbird install, and then I can switch between English and German Thunderbird UI.
