Thunderbird version is 68, not 45 So your asking for assistance with a newly arrived problem in software no one on this forum has used probably for 4 years or so.

So you will need to explain your situation very carefully as we are going off and reinventing old stuff.

I have been using Thunderbird for more than 15 years and it worked well. The last version i was using was 38.

2 weeks ago i updated to the last version (version 68) and the problem started. Once the update finished, all my email accounts were removed from Thunderbird (more than 6 accounts). I tried to recreat the most important one. The account contains many sub folders and long tree of my classified emails that I kept since 2004.

First when i retrieved the account and changed the path in the server and storage option in account settings, Thunderbird retrieved the tree but the inbox was empty which contained more than 2000 emails. Then it deleted all sub folders from the account i created.

When I checked the email files on the hard disk i found that Thunderbird overwrote all files in the root directory in the email folders. But emails in subfolders were still there. I tried to use a backup i had for the emails but Thunderbird deleted it again

So i uninstalled Thunderbird and installed the old version i had (version 38). Once installed it requested updating, and after updating it became version 45 and the problem presisted

Is the backup a copy of the entire Thunderbird profile folder?

That will be https://thunderbirdtweaks.blogspot.com/2019/09/i-lost-my-profilemail-on-update-to.html

I suggest you use the instructions on V68 and fix you profile location once you are back on your original profile you might be on your way.
