Upon FF 56 latest update, I can no longer access many of the websites I've been using for years. Removing the "br" at the end of "network.http.accept-encoding.secure = gzip, deflate, br" does nothing. I must employ cntrl+shift+R to access the website (but this does not work in all cases) and then repeat the cntrl+shift+R. This is irritating and tedious and an unnecessary step.

I am not a tech gal and know very little about "fixing" issues now prevalent in FF 56. Can someone help? This issue must be corrected before I go into a major hissy-fit!

Thanks Kay Cude

Do you see any error messages?

Does this only happen with secure HTTPS connections or also with open HTTP connections?

It is possible that your firewall or other security software blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program. Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to install for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process. See:

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

The issue is not Kaspersky's firewall. It is FF56 not allowing me to go from page to page from the starting page unless I cntrl+shift+R to reach subsequent pages. It surely is the issue of "network.http.accept-encoding.secure = gzip, deflate, br".

I can often proceed from an email from a site by clicking on it; but once I'm within FF and at the site I cannot go to the sites subsequent pages unless I click cntrl+shift+R. This has become problematical when I try to go from page to page within many Christian websites. This issue was not present in FF55, but with your subsequent updates of FF56.

I've had to disable all of the "Performance" options listed in the "Options" section in order to get reasonable results.

Not only I am still dealing with the unfixable "quirks" mode, I am unable to watch videos from Fox News from inside of Judicial Watch. Why must I go the IE's browser BING to watch the videos?

You can check the Web Console (Tools -> Web Developer) for media related messages.

You can check the Network Monitor to see if content is blocked or otherwise fails to load.

Use "Ctrl+F5" or "Ctrl+Shift+R" to reload the page and bypass the cache to generate a fresh log.
