Cannot move messages from inbox to folder
Starting a couple of days ago, I could no longer move emails from my inboxes to any folders. I quit Thunderbird and restarted my Mac but still have the same problem. However, when right-clicking on the unmoved message in the inbox it offers to "move to 'Folder X' again", so it obviously is recording the move but is not actually moving the message itself.
Today I received an email, went to file it in a folder, and it worked no problem, so I tried moving a couple of other messages I have been trying to file for the last couple of days but still to no avail.
Any help is more than welcome, thanks!
I have been running Thunderbird 24.6.0 on Mac OS X 10.8.5 but just now realised that version was out of date. I just updated to Thunderbird 31.3.0, checked again, and the problem still persists.

Create a backup of your Profile folders.
Then compact all folders.
- File > Compact folders
It is possible that your files have got too large. Thunderbird saves emails in mbox files.
Example Senario that applies to any folder in the Folder Pane. Where you see the eg: Inbox folder in the Folder Pane, this is actually a 'file' - a single document- all emails were downloaded to Inbox and written to that file, one after the other, in the order they were downloaded. So the Inbox is now one single large document.
When you delete an email it gets 'marked as deleted' and from your point of view it disappears from Inbox and goes to 'Deleted/Trash' folder. In reality it is still in the Inbox, hidden from view and 'marked as deleted'. When you 'compact' the folder, all of those 'marked as deleted' emails are removed freeing up space and keeping the file smaller. Info on compacting, what it does and why it is important:
I do not know if you compact your folders on a regular basis or Archive emails older than eg: 2 months, . Archiving by month and year and keeping folder structure really helps to keep emails organised and stored in small files. Less risky and smaller files also use less menory. Info on Archiving:
