This just started happening out of the blue. My window manger is set to focus-follows-mouse but _not_ auto-raise Yet thunderbird seems to take it upon itself to auto-raise on focus gained.

lets see, all of that is Linux Specific and I suggest you ask in a support forum for your distribution
