updated to 38.2.0 and now I can't see messages. I can only see the folder list on the left panel.

Compacting the Inbox did the trick. I guess I have too many emails in the Inbox folder. Thank you!
Problem is back. It only works on safe mode with everything disabled. I'm having the same problem. When I start Thunderbird in safe mode everything looks very normal. I'm running: Windows 10, Kaspersky Internet Security 16.0.0.614(c), Internet provider is Charter, most emails are at hotmail.com but I've got a few non-hotmail addresses set up too. Help?

So you only see the folder list on the left panel? What happens if you *remove* the calendar addon 4.0.3.1 that you have installed?
I had success by starting Thunderbird in safe mode, putting a check mark next to "Disable all add-ons", then clicking Make Changes and Restart. Everything has been perfect since!
I wonder if part of the issue is that I've had Thunderbird installed "forever" (shortly after Eudora's final release) and probably have some very old settings floating around.
