Thunderbird must have updated and now the preview plane is enabled by default. I didn't enable it. And the View menu item is gone so it requires a web search to figure out how to turn the preview plane off. Thanks Thunderbird for wasting my time.

I'm certain this is self inflicted, but for the life of my I can't figure what I did.

I've got Thunderbird installed on two machines. One a Dell XPS 13 laptop, the other a Dell Precision Desktop, both with Windows 10.

I use Resilio sync to synchronize a profile so both machines are displaying the same. I'm very careful about not opening both at the same time. This has all worked perfectly for years.

Everything is fine on the XPS. On the Precision, all the text in the new message window is displayed in bold.

The odd part is the message isn't bold when received by the recipient.

Any idea what it is that I've buggered up?

I've uninstalled Thunderbird using Revo Installer, rebooted and then installed from scratch with no effect.

So, I'm guessing there is a setting that's been toggled in the Registry to cause this.

Any help would be appreciated.

I just went to open Thunderbird and window popped up to setup email account. I have been using this for years. what the hell happened to my program for email? who has the time on checking email to set everything up again? Why wouldn't we be warned this was coming? Do I really have to set up all of my accounts again? What happened to my stored emails and folders that were setup? I am assuming the program updated, but honestly this pisses me off and makes me want to switch clients after decades of use.

I have used Thunderbird with a POP3 account for years - it has become a large, handy, easily searched database of important information. MY ISP has forced me into Microsoft Office which doesn't support Thunderbird and, annoyed, I've jumped to Proton, which will allow me to continue with Thunderbird and to download my emails. My question is this:

Now that my old email address is no longer supported, Thunderbird goes nuts throwing up a constant message about not being able to connect. How do I stop this without deleting the actual account? (because if I do, I delete the entire database of emails associated with the account.). I just want to disable it so that it doesn't try to connect. And then I will simply add in my Proton email and carry on from there. At the moment, I get the message: "Log in to account "..." failed." and then three buttons - Enter new password, Cancel, Retry - but it doesn't stay concelled. It just keeps nagging me. And if I go into account settings, it won't let me disable the SMTP.

Sometimes, often after an upgrade, messages IMAPed to Thunderbird do not display correctly. In two recent cases I moved two messages from the Spam folder to the Inbox. One of the messages was completely blank except for the subject. The other displayed HTML code instead of the readable messages. Both messages displayed correctly at my email provider's website. Is there a way or can you provide a way to tell Thunderbird to re-import a message?

Can I have Thunderbird on more than one of my computers? I ask this because each time when I open an incoming email the email says I'm "Writing" an says it is: "From" me not from the person it is from. And on the bottom of every email in my inbox it has this "Warning about unique identity which is me:

At bottom it says: A unique identity/matching the From address was not found. The message will be sent using the current From field and settings from identity "My Name and email".

I have tried looking at all my settings to compare them to my other Thunderbird on my laptop, and also have tried several times to Troubleshoot.

I hope this helps you understand my problem

(POP3 client accounts on Win10 Home)

Moved my Postbox v3.x POP3 client Profile (mbox, msf formats) to new Laptop with fresh install of old saved version 52.8.0 Thunderbird Client POP3.

Upon first open after the Profile copy to TBird noticed a Popup saying migration updating. Checking version it had updated from 52.8.0 to 60.9.1 (32bit)

QUESTION: Just curious if anyone else has had this happen (?) and is this something that TBird does on it's own to fix any migrated Profile issues regardless of Update settings?

(BTW looking at new Acct settings that came with copied Postbox Profile it still had the [ ] Check for new messages at startup UNCHECKED. All my Mail and settings were there and functioning) [ EDIT CORRECTION, the above BTW line was my confused error of presentation. I meant to say that TBird Options->Advanced->Update it had a selection dot by->Never check for updates. I apologize for my sloppiness therein. ]

The message filter has been turning off on its own and randomly only at certain email addresses for some time now.

The email address is on our own domain, but other email addresses on the same domain are not experiencing this phenomenon.

Also, if I delete the address and recreate it, or re-set up my email in a completely new environment, the phenomenon recurs.

Any advice on email filters would be greatly appreciated.

What do I need to type into the Advanced Preferences search box to reset the options for blocked remote content?

Since my ISP had an outage, all emails I receive either have blank image frames or are text only. I checked with them, but they suggested I click on a yellow bar that is supposed to appear at the top with an Option "Allow remote content from all origins listed above". Unfortunately I haven't seen one, so need another way of resetting whatever-it-is that has gone wrong.

I have now seen a number of Emails corrupted and not just in the inbox (cf. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1410819). I also see a closed topic with no clear resolutions about corruption (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1381880). I have no antivirus software running and can see no regularities in which messages are getting corrupted. The form of the corruption is that some of the message is retained, but without formatting and with some of the html code (I think, I confess I didn't look closely enough before trying properties, repair ... which did repair it to my surprise, I did try ctrl-U to see the source which showed nothing at all, not even what I could see in the normal view).

I realise that this doesn't make this a very helpful report but the issue is serious enough that I thought I should report it. I will watch carefully for future examples. Is there anything that I should do to get more information assuming, as I fear, that I will see more of this? For now do I just ignore suggestions to compact (I have that on manual) as there looks to be a suggestion that compacting has caused corruption in the past?

Please check the password and verify the 'Authentication method' in 'Account Settings | Outgoing server (SMTP)'. I have checked the outgoing settings for password and it says normal password. This problem started when I changed my BT email password

Working currently with Thunderbird version 60.9.1 have following questions.

(1) On my version a right click (or double click) gets you to menu choices. However I did not see a Save. I surmise exiting config editor saves any changes or do you also have to click OK once back in the Options-General Tab to save the config editor changes?

(2a) Also noticed if create new item name with typo, there is no way to edit the name or any way to delete the item. I was able (with TBird closed) to delete or edit the item name typo in prefs.js.

(2b) I read some folks (with Thunderbird closed) are just editing items directly in prefs.js. However I noticed some items are not in prefs.js like accessibility.AOM.enabled Did a file content search of entire Tbird Profile root folder and I can't find accessibility.AOM.enabled in any file. Just curious how one might get rid of an item they didn't want or need in config editor?

I have this for Outlook (program on C:, outlook.pst on D:), however I am replacing Outllook with TB. Lately I'm having trouble with my connection with outlook. I use a free outlook email address. Sometimes (not always) when starting Thunderbird, I get the "user authenticated but not connected" warning. After a while it's working again.

I have tried several settings but can't figure out what solves this issue.

I'm using port 993 / SSL/TLS and authentication method is set to normal password.

Most of the times this works.

When I switch to OAuth2, I get the Microsoft screen to login to my work / school account which I do not have.

I've search the web to find a solution for this but I can't find it. Hopefully someone can help me out because it drives me "nuts" ;)

Running TB 102.4.0 on Windows 10 off a SSD drive. System was running fine this morning but when I started TB in the afternoon I have a blank screen as attached. Top menu items are displayed but cannot access Tools > Account Settings or Settings. Tried restarting in Safe Mode but no change. Deactivated Anstivirus (Kaspersky) but no change either. Looked and saw this has happened to other people but cannot replicate any of the solutions. Error console message attached. Cannot access More Troubleshooting Mode. Messages are downloading but I cannot see them - but they are no longer on the server. Only File Menu item that works is Write Message.

Appreciate any feedback.

I am using TB version 102.7.2 on Win10 latest update. I use the preview function in Thunderbird to that I can read an email without opening it. I can't forward or reply to a message without opening the message. Instead, TB tries to forward or reply to the last opened message. This appears to have changed in one of the latest TB updates. I can't find a Tools option to change this. Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
