Is it possible to get old-style minute detail advanced control of settings and configuration ... power-user style, like I had gotten used to in old Mozilla Browser?

I been out of the loop for 5 years, computer/internet wise... I come back to find that firefox apparently, at least on the surface is dumbed down to the least common denominator???

I want my advanced configuration settings back? How can I do this?

like change the default Icon for saved links, dragged from the address bar to the desktop in UNIX... for starters.

Or for example, Set it to open new instances of mozilla firefox as NEW Processes, instead of child processes, so that when one process gets stuck and has to be "killed" it doesn't kill all the other open browers windows! ... etc. etc. etc.

about:config

Firefox runs in one process regardless of how many tabs or windows are open; always been that way. Firefox 3.6.4 and newer run some plugins in its' own process.
