A few days ago all of my unopened emails (about 80?) started to duplicate. Last time I checked it was over 5600 emails. I use a Mac and have no problems with my other email accounts (Yahoo, gmail, etc) Has anyone had this problem? Solutions or suggestions? TYIA

What does "other email accounts" mean? Do you not work with these in Thunderbird?

No. The thunderbird account was set up by our web designer. It's very clunky and I can't get it to work on anything but a mac desktop. If we check emails from the macbook or phone it doesn't show as read on the mac..... Generally not impressed with this email account, but that may be because its not set up properly. I don't know anyone that uses thunderbird to get feedback on it but since the designer printed that email on all of our advertising we are pretty much resigned to using it.

There is no such thing as a Thunderbird account. Thunderbird is email client software not an email provider. Providers Provide email addresses. If you are checking mail from multiple devices then you should be using IMAP and not POP. If your designer set you up as POP that sure is not the fault of Thunderbird.

Hey Airmail, thanks for taking the time to respond. Lets pretend for a minute that I have no idea what an IMAP or POP does or how to set any of that up. In fact, lets consider that, other than basic skills, I have no computer knowledge whatsoever.... Might be a good reason to ask a question here, hoping for a real response rather than a critique and oddly aggressive 'defense' of thunderbird....

To all - I probably should have mentioned that this isn't a new email. We have been using it this way for over four years with no major issues. I was hoping that this was just a common glitch that others had encountered, with an easy fix. Obviously not, but thx to those that read & responded. I ended up just manually deleting the emails & am keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn't happen again.

If you have no idea about imap or pop then Google might be something to learn about. While you are there you might search email client vs email provider. Usually it is the uninformed that think a real answer is defensive.

I say again what has been said to you before, there is no such thing as a Thunderbird account.

In all probability you can work with this account via a website. Thunderbird/Mozilla does not issue nor run accounts, so there is absolutely no lock-in to using Thunderbird.

"It's very clunky" "not impressed with this email account"

You are confusing "account" with "client". You don't have to use Thunderbird if you really don't like it. I guess this email account is linked to your domain and website and clearly if it's your business email address you'll definitely want to keep on using it. But it will have its own webpage interface and other email clients are available. If you really are disappointed with the email account per se, then get your web designer to help you find and switch to an alternative webhost.

Most Thunderbird users would have exactly the opposite opinion and call webmail (which you're probably using with yahoo and gmail) "clunky". Most of us work with yahoo and gmail via Thunderbird because we don't like their native webmail format. Clunky websites with idiosyncratic controls and layout, burdened with advertising.

Thunderbird uses standard protocols to communicate with email servers. The IMAP service is better suited to a situation such as yours where you appear to be viewing the messages on more than one device. You did say "…if we check emails from the macbook or phone it doesn't show as read on the mac…" but OTOH this is very often a (mal)function of the server, not the client. If you have been set up to use the older POP service then changing to IMAP might improve things for you.

C.J.: I think some of those guys were being a bit rude to you to be honest.

Try reading over these threads and perhaps you will find an answer:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1061656 https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1005565 https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1139782 https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1142108

Whoever installed it should probably have a look at it and this and the other threads to debug it. POP3 and IMAP are not at all intuitive.

Good Luck!
