I never was given the opportunity (or don't remember) to register with the installation of firefox. So how do I register???

to sync your Firefox, tabs, bookmarks and passwords from your browser you can create an account here : about:preferences#sync

You do not need to register unless you want to use Sync and in that case you can create a Firefox Sync account.
