I want to retrieve my address book, for holiday mailings, but I can't run Thunderbird. I have no Cloud or Sync, so the answers involving these are no help....Also, there is no "Register" button to ask a question here! Thanks so much!

lets start at the beginning.

You accidentally deleted your profile. I have no idea how you did that, but that contains your address book data. So if it is truly deleted I suggest you try restoring from a backup or even a windows restore point. You will not be getting your address book restored from a deleted state by installing Thunderbird again.\

USe the profile manager to force Thunderbird to ask for a profile. I am assuming itis baulking at loading something that is deleted. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_manager

Matt, I deleted profile when some tidbit inside was showing up as infected, but deleted whole thing. Neither backup nor Win restore-point worked, and I can't access profile manager since I can't open the program. Still don't get why fresh download also won't open. Ah well, thanks anyway! Lorraine

I am guessing that the profile.ini file that points to things is still there.

in the start menu type %appdata% and press enter. locate the Thunderbird folder in roaming and rename it. It might have mail you can recover later. If not delete it.

Now go up two levels in the folder tree until you see local Roaming and localLow as folder names. open local and again delete the Thunderbird folder.

Now run the installer and things should work for you (At least I hope so). Let me know.
