The filter for thunderbird expands far too big and I always have to shrink it down to even get to the buttons on the bottom. I have attached is what I see when I add any thing to my recruiter filter. This is NOT viable and yes I do often find myself having to delete this filter and watch it grow and grow and grow. I enjoy the thunderbird and have been using it since the 90's. But I've never had issues until these last few years of this. So I am not willing to keep putting up with this.

Anyone has any ideas at all on how to improve on this or is there a setting I am not aware of that can control the sizing of this beast?

Thanks for your help.

I assume you have a multiple monitor setup and Thunderbird is on the smaller monitor. At least that was the context of my bug report on exactly the same thing.

The scaling of the dialogs are taken from the larger monitor is the problem, a fix is far harder so the bug is still around.

See if the window looks better with a default layout and your filter add-ons disabled, in safe mode (hold Shift when launching TB). Consider adding the filter contacts to an address book, then making the rule From + is in my address book + <select address book>.

The version of TB i had was the 78.x version. I saw on the thunderbird site had 91.0.3 and HUGE difference. The filter window works now very nicely. The performance is an improvement. Although I only have 8 GB memory and have swap for 2 GB right now. I have to see if my mini mac can be upgraded. Strange when I went to up grade it never upgrade from 78.x to 91.x that I have now. So had to manually download it and I am running Windows 10. I have the image of the OS I am running. So I need to understand the different features now. :) But it is better.

Another easier solution is to install cardboard and make use cardboard from or cardboard to. The provision is that the contacts in cardboard To be in categories. I.e Cardbook from Is in my address book Cardboard category friends

This means that all contacts in category friends Need only 1 filter.

Really I have no idea why card book is suggested. The base product allows unlimited address books and the filter system accepts an address book as a filter choice, either in or not in a particular address book.

Matt,

TB internal filters function require for each contact in a group to have a filter for each contact. With cardbook when you have categorized a group of contacts let's say friends, when you need to create a filter, you use only one ( explained above). Thus you don't have to create a long list of filters which is difficult to mange and see on the monitor. Imagine to have 100 friends and you want when you receive email from them, you want to tag it as Friends and move it in local folders folder named friends. Using TB internal filters rules you need to create a filter for each one contact. Disastrous!!!!

TB is a great application I use since first version. With the advantage of add ons it's becoming greater.
