I accidentally installed a Beta version of thunderbird that is too buggy for my use, how do I return to the earlier version that I had

Thunderbird setup 42.0b2,exe, which I accidentally installed, is far too buggy for me to be able to use in my daily work. It won't file sent messages correctly, it won't notify me when incoming emails arrive, it downloads emails when I don't want it to do so.

In my windows XP download file I also have Thunderbird setup 38.2.0 exe which had been previously installed in my windows XP system and which worked perfectly before I accidentally installed the Beta version described above over it.

My question: can I reload Thunderbird setup 38.2.0 exe from my download file over this Beta version to get back to where I was before I wrongly installed this Beta version or will this make my problem worse? If I cannot do this, how can I again get a good working, not Beta, version of Thunderbird installed. My system is an emachine with windows XP.

I am a real fan of Mozilla and have used both Thunderbird and Firefox for years without problems except the ones that I cause myself like this one.

Thanks in advance for the help.

I am surprised to hear this. I'm not aware of beta users having such problems.

You will want to download 38.5.1 from https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/
