Bookmarks not displaying correctly

I have Firefox 22 and use Sidebar Bookmark Selector 3.0. When I now hover over a link in my bookmarks it is supposed to display the info for that link. But now it displays an alltigether different link over it. I believe this started when I upgraded to FF 22. It works correctly in Safemode, so I have gone through all the steps that FF suggested. The only step I did not do was disable NoScript, because it was the only extension that when I went to disable it gave a non computer guy like me an extra meassge of why you shouldn't disable it. I understand the concerns of disabling it, but just incase it was one of those programs where I have to "reteach" it everything it needs to block or not block, I usually have no idea what I'm doing with those so I just decided to leave it enabled. If by chance it was not Noscript causing the problem, that means I did everything on FF's checklist, but none of them worked, Where am I supposed to go from there? Again, everything works fine in Safemode. Also, if this question should be in a different category, please let me know. Thanks

I understand you said it (Firefox and mouse pointer) worked ok in safe-mode yet the problem is with an extension that will be disabled in safe mode !? So I am not sure I follow correctly what you are saying.

You may just be confirming the extension does not work. If so as an unofficial troubleshooting step download and install as an additional browser Firefox Portable ESR and see if that works.

Did you by the way try changing layout.css.devPixelsPerPx from -1 to +1 that was a change that occurred in Fx22 that you may reverse.

Not a proper answer but I wonder if the pref about pixels has been changed ?

There was a bug (Bug 644952 ) that caused that effect but that does not exist on my Ubuntu system at the moment. Possibly it still affects Windows and if so is a known problem that is unlikely to be fixed any time soon. (Unless Fx22 zoom problems expose the bug to many more users now)

Follow these instructions but do not change anything just report the value currently used.

Firefox on Windows is now following display scaling options which may render text larger on high resolution displays. You can adjust your screen resolution. To modify it do the following:

  • Type about:config into the Firefox address bar and tap on the Enter key.
  • If the warning This might void your warranty appears, click I'll be careful, I promise.
  • Search for layout.css.devPixelsPerPx.

Fx22layout.css.devPixelsPerPx

  • Double-click layout.css.devPixelsPerPx. Its default value is -1.0.

I will have to check in Windows see if the Bug still exists.

Funny, cause I also wondered why all my fonts had changed after FF22. But I've already gone in and changed them to what looks good again, lol. As for this bookmark problem.....kinda bumming me out.

What value are you using for layout.css.devPixelsPerPx

As a workaround note that the ordinary dropdown bookmarks list and also the bookmarks library should continue to work normally.

It's the default value.

Ok that is not the bug I was thinking about, and anyway when I read your original question more closely you are not having a problem with the Firefox Bookmarks Sidebar it is with something you call Sidebar Bookmark Selector 3.0. presumably an extension for Firefox..

Before trying to troubleshoot and possibly looking for conflicting add-ons or settings it may be worth trying to contact the support or home site for the add-on to ask if it works with Firefox 22, or whether what you see is a known bug.

Try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

You can change the layout.css.devPixelsPerPx pref from the current default -1 to the value of 1 that was used in previous Firefox versions.

Tried Hardware Acceleration. Did not work. I literally tried everything on FF's checklist that it said to if the problem did not persist when in Safemode. The only thing I haven't done is disable Noscript, for the reasons stated. At some point I may just have to bite the bullet.

If you do not like being online without no-script enabled why not test it whilst Firefox is working offline. Presumably you do not even need to use any web-pages. With Firefox on about:blank you will see the problem.

John, that is not my problem. I don't mind not having it enabled online.......I just can't remember if its one of those programs that once I disable it, and then reenable it, if I lose all my settings and have to decide which pages to block or not.

I use no-script & sometimes disable it. NS issues a warning before you disable it and an offer to instead just disable scriptblocking. It requires a restart of Firefox before changes. AFAIK I have not lost any NS user preferences by doing that. It appears to store preferences in the profile within NoScriptSTS.db

Thanks. That was the answer I was looking for. I'll go ahead and probably disable it and see if this is the problem.

Well this just sucks. I've now gone through every problem on FF's checklist of things to do if something works correctly in Safemode, and none of them solved the issue. Thnaks for help John. Maybe an update somewhere down the line fixes this.

Sorry, your last response ended up in the spam folder! Ok, amazingly the Pixels thing worked! I wouldn't have thought that, but it did. The only thing now is my font size in my bookmarks tab is waaay to small, and all the settings are exactly the same as before all this happened. Any idea in windows XP what ties in with what......meaning, they have things that say active title bar, inactive title bar, menu, message box, and so on and so forth. I don't remember which one goes accordingly with the bookmarks window pane. Either way, this is the least of my problems.......I am very grateful that you solved the problem.......even if you had solved it many responces ago but I was too stubborn to switch the pixels. Thank you John!

Ok, everythings back to normal! Geeeeeeez, lol!! Thanks again John.

Glad it seems to be working again.

If you now have all the icons and menu things (the chrome) the correct size. And if the mouse pointer is lining up correctly then almost everything appears ok.

If all this leaves you with the webpage content looking the wrong size either use the zoom menu (or Ctrl and + plus or minus) or consider using an add-on such as no-squint to fine tune how things look

All this by the way appears on a forum https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/963520

Yeah, everythings about as good as I had it before. I'll bookmark this so I can remember about the Pixel thing. Thanks man!
