Downloading is not enough, you need to have it installed. First thing to check is: is the extension installed at the moment? Have a look at Tools > Addons and browse the list FYI I just installed ver. 1.0.3 from this page https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/tabcounter/ and everything seems to work as expected. Please describe more precisely and tell us here.

ah it seems it is another tab counter extension you are complaining about https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/tab-counter/ My suggestions are the same anyhow. I also installed it and found it worked normally.

Ok you should better click on "Extensions" instead of "Plugins" when you are in Addon manager. Please tell if Tab counter is in the extensions list.

Yep that's the one that I have tried downloading from press download then press download anyway then it goes download at the bottom left hand corner like its downloaded I click on it and then it comes up with this C:\users\alison\downloads\tabs-counter-1.9.3-fx +sm(8).xpi Application not found

no previous warning message asking you to "authorize" the download? do you mean the file is automatically downloaded in your download directory?

If so goto Tools > Options > General and check the option "Always ask" for the downloading process

nothing not a warning until I click to open and yeah the download is listed in there

Ok try this: in your Firefox menu, goto File > Open file and find tab counter xpi in your directory. Confirm OK (or Open) then you should have the installation process beginning
