Why does the address bar not appear?

To turn toolbar on and off, you can use the classic View menu.

Alt+v (opens the classic View menu) > Toolbars > Navigation Toolbar

If you somehow got switched into full screen mode, which has no menus or toolbars, use the F11 key to toggle back to normal mode.
