The shortcuts on my desktop that open Firefox browser stopped working

I have several websites that I use frequently, and so I have placed icons on my desktop that I can click and used to just open Firefox and go to these sites, but now as of this morning the desktop shortcuts no longer will open Firefox browser. I switched my browser to Internet Explorer and they open with no problem, but I would rather use Firefox as my browser.... Why did shortcuts on my desktop just randomly stop working please??

If you switch your default browser back to Firefox, do they resume working? See Make Firefox your default browser.

If not, do you start Firefox in any special way, for example, using a sandboxing program or using the -no-remote command line startup switch?
