hello. i installed firefox because i was told it would be better than ie. guess not! i'm having an irritating issue with the icons. i can not put refresh,stop,& history in front of the address bar.the stop button just keeps disappearing.wth?(it was working fine before,& it just changed/reset for no reason.now,the stop button is grayed out.) the best i can do is:stop,refresh,& history. for that matter,i can not move the address bar below the icons.nor can i get rid of that stupid "bookmark this page star." i would love to get rid of all icons for websites in the address bar as well. any suggestions?

  • Set the order to "Reload - Stop" to get a combined "Reload/Stop" button.
  • Set the order to "Stop - Reload" or separate them otherwise (Space or Separator) to get two distinct buttons.

What do you mean with "i can not move the address bar below the icons" ?
To which position do you want to move the location bar?

You can remove the star from the location bar with code in userChrome.css below the default @namespace line.

The customization files userChrome.css and userContent.css are located in the chrome folder in the user profile folder.

You can use the ChromEdit Plus or Stylish extension to have easier access to the customization files.

@namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul"); /* only needed once */

#star-button { display:none !important; }

hello cor-el. exactly like it sounds,location/address bar below the back,forward,refresh... icons.just like in internet explorer 6.(if you remember!?) it just keeps disappearing when i click done.

this (#star-button { display:none !important; }) worked just fine without the extra url/code. then,again,i used the whole thing first.

can you do the same for the favicons?

is it just me,or the green go arrow button had always disappeared?i wasn't paying attention to it.

Firefox 4 and later use a combined Stop/Reload/Go button that is positioned at the right end of the location bar.
During the page load process it shows as a Stop button and after the loading has finished the button is changed to a Reload button.
If you type in the location bar then that button becomes a Go button.
Middle-click the Reload button to duplicate the current tab to a new tab.

Make sure that you have the @namespace line at the start of the file userChrome.css
It may work without it, but may cause problems in some cases if it is missing or stop working in future Firefox versions.

You can force an extra Go button with this code.

#urlbar[pageproxystate="valid"] > #urlbar-icons > #go-button {
 visibility:visible!important;
}

i forgot to mention in my last post.this page has a lot of useful commands you can put into userChrome.css: http://kb.mozillazine.org/UserChrome.css_Element_Names/IDs#Firefox_menus dam shame this place doesn't have resizable windows.i could had posted them here.(mozillazine.org was down for half a day yesterday.)

hello cor-el. i have to say,"you went far,& above what i was hopping with the go button,but it was not necessary." i was just asking,because i was not paying attention.(however,it is very useful,& i will keep it on file.thank you very much.) MOZILLA SHOULD BE PAYING YOU A SALARY FOR DOING STUFF LIKE THIS!!!

as far as favicons.what you should had said: option 1: type in the address/location bar:about:config,& select:i'll be careful,i promise. locate:browser.chrome.favicons,right click,& select toggle:FALSE. NEXT,locate:browser.chrome.image_icons.max_size,right click,& select modify:SET IT TO 0. NEXT,locate:browser.chrome.site_icons,right click,& select toggle:FALSE. FOR OLDER FF VERSIONS: browser.chrome.load_toolbar_icons set to 0 overrides this preference for the Bookmarks menu and Personal Bookmarks Toolbar.

option 2: CLOSE FF,open prefs.js(with a notepad). type in: user_pref("browser.chrome.favicons", false); user_pref("browser.chrome.image_icons.max_size", 0); user_pref("browser.chrome.site_icons", false); AND SAVE.

this is a lot easier to read instead of jumping from page to page like it shows in those links.(especially when the site is down.)

cor-el is there anything you can do as far as that blue button in the location bar,or moving the location bar below the icons?
