Now running Firefox 4 recently synced my bookmarks and worked ok BUT now they have vanished. I neeeeed them back!
Can't really tell you much more. The bookmarks synced well between my desk & lap tops about three/four days ago. Now Bookmarks is empty on both machines??? Your guesses are pretty accurate

First, you may want to make a backup of your profile folder. It contains not only your current bookmark list, but a folder of backups. But these are not saved forever. To back up Firefox, see Backing up your information. (For example, copy your bookmark backups folder, or your entire profile folder, to a safe place outside of the Mozilla folder.)
