When Firefox upgrades it will use the existing profile folder (location where user data is stored). It will use you current bookmarks, passwords, cookies and other use data.

During the upgrade it will check your extensions and themes to see if they are compatible with Firefox 4. If they are not compatible with Firefox 4 it will offer to check for updates and if none are found it will disable them.

Though not comprehensive, the following link shows the compatibility of many of the popular add-ons. Those listed as compatible with 4.0.* or higher should work on Firefox 4 - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/compatibility/report

Thank you for the help, i searched Firefox's web site and didn't see any mention of what happens when doing an upgrade.
