After updating firefox saturday i was unable to access the internet. I kept getting a window saying, Failed to connect to a windows service. Windows could't connect to the Group Policy Client svc. This problem prevents standard users from signing in. My computer guy told me to un/reinstall firefox. When I did I lost all my bookmarks, toolbars, etc. He restored those and now when I try to login to my Earthlink homepage the address bar shows that it is NOT a secure connection. This happens also on Chrome. E/L said it was a browser problem and to contact Microsoft, which I don't really want to do.

Hi Swanky6, you may get a "warning" lock () on some pages displaying email messages because of "mixed" content -- that is, you're on an HTTPS page, but images embedded in the message were retrieved from HTTP addresses.
This kind of mixed display content creates a potential privacy risk of leaking information from the secure page to the insecure server hosting the image, but the risk is considered pretty small, so you just get a warning lock and the images are allowed to load. If you set Firefox to block the images, then the lock will stay solid, but you won't see the images. So... tough call.
I'm going to give you a reference to a support article about mixed content and the different lock icons to see whether this is what's going on, since I'm just guessing: Mixed content blocking in Firefox.
Is that the situation, or is there a deeper issue with other kinds of Earthlink pages being insecure?
(And I don't know why they would suggest contacting Microsoft for a problem in Firefox and Chrome. ??)

What do you see if you click the padlock icon ?
You can check the Web Console (Tools -> Web Developer) for messages about blocked content and about the presence of mixed or unsafe content.
You can check the Network Monitor for more detail about loading content.
If necessary use "Ctrl+F5" or "Ctrl+Shift+R" (Mac: Command+Shift+R) to reload the page and bypass the cache to generate a fresh log.
