Do you have any antivirus that might be getting in the way and 'swapping' out firefox processes?
Has it worked on previous versions of firefox? If so, what versions and have you attempted to do the same on with those versions to confirm a regression and not a system issue?
Do you have any auditing/anti-virus checkers (as extensions) running in firefox? If so, try with firefox starting in 'Safe Mode' which disables all extensions/add-ons -- great for debugging the root cause of issues like this.
- No extensions beside Java toggle on off.
- this has been an issue for the last 12 months; however many versions of Firefox that it
- I have Norton anti-virus installed
Does other online email services freeze as well or just Comcast?
Just Comcast.
I have only one tab open in Firefox. It is using 63% of my RAM. the open tab is: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1226251?fpa=1
So that would mean it's a Comcast email issue then. Did you contact them about it.
This is not only a Comcast issue. This is a Firefox issue. Just now, with only one tab open (THIS support page), Firefox took 99% of my memory AND...gave me the yellow tab saying that this web page is slowing down the browser. Now what?
Is anyone gonna help figure out why Firefox constantly uses 90+% of my RAM? This happens whether I try to access Comcast or not.

Would you please take a look at this article :
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-uses-too-much-memory-ram
You could disable multi-process (e10s) on the about:config page :
Type in the address bar about:config and press Enter (promise to be careful, if asked) Type in the search bar : browser.tabs.remote.autostart and set its value to false Then close and restart Firefox.
Note that the pref 'browser.tabs.remote.autostart.2' is no longer supported.

Tried everything mentioned; no improvement, same issue remains.
To be Checked and turned off unless needed for accessibility : Please : go to the Firefox 3 Bar Menu --> Options --> Privacy & Security panel and under Permissions check (put a tick in the box) the setting to Prevent Accessibility Services from accessing your browser.
Multi-Processor Support : Go to the 3 Bar Menu then Options --> General --> Performance and untick everything. change the recommended size lower then see how it runs. Note: 1 = No Multiprocessor = slow again. Try 2 Restart Firefox after making these changes please. Note : Hardware Acceleration is for Video Card, Monitor to see if remain off or to turn back on.
Only Disable as last resort.
Multi-processor Can completely disable it this way in about:config : dom.ipc.processCount set to 1 browser.tabs.remote.autostart = false browser.tabs.remote.autostart.2 = false
Only move to esr if low ram and old system.
Firefox Extended Release Version : Firefox ESR does not come with the latest features but it has the latest security and stability fixes.

I stand corrected and apologize. I upgraded to 16gb of RAM; Firefox works fine EXCEPT on Comcast Xfinity. Before I curse them out, does anyone know the issues causing this?
Sorry that you are having problems, but that has been my experience too. Ever since Comcast.net was transitioned to the Xfinity.com domain the speed of loading email data has slowed down greatly. As far as I recall, that change also involved a major change in their webmail portal to "Xfinity Connect".
