Typing in address Bar does not offer bookmarks after 57.0.2 update

Before the update Firefox offered me recent, often visited visited sites; and Bookmarks in the drop down list when I typed in the Address Bar.

After the Quantum 57.0.2 64 bit update (Windows 7 Home 64 bit) bookmarks are not offered.

The list offered contains only visited sites ... and old ones at that! Recently visited sites do not appear even though I have visited many times, probably 30+, since the update.

I went to Options > Privacy and Security ..., and Browsing history and Bookmarks are both ticked. I unticked, moved page, returned and ticked both just to be certain. No change in behaviour.

I un-ticked Browsing history leaving only Bookmarks ticked. Bookmarks are then offered when I type in the address bar.

Question: What do I need to do to so that, when I have both Browsing history and Bookmarks ticked, I get offered Bookmarks in the drop down list?

While it may or may not be significant, I use XMarks and it seems to have stopped working. I have lost all my "2nd level" bookmarks - ie those when I go Bookmarks > Folder 1 > Folder 2. Folder 2 is now empty. I have removed the XMarks add-on.

Maybe you haven't used bookmarks that much to make them appear as suggestions (i.e. they have a low visit and frecency count when compared to history).

You can also check for issues with places.sqlite (bookmarks and history).

If you use Sync then best is to disconnect Sync while performing maintenance/repair efforts to files in the Firefox profile folder.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database (bookmarks and history) in the Firefox profile folder.

  • use "Verify Integrity" on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page

Thank you.

"Maybe you haven't used bookmarks that much to make them appear as suggestions ..." was the solution. I have now been using the bookmark to visit the site and after a number of visits the bookmark appeared in the suggestions.
